Future Events Inherited will and characters benchmarks in One Piece

Zoro Worshipper

I had never doubts about Luffy being the "most chosen one" question is how much Zoro's genetics help him out but I guess not that much presumably.

Law -> Oden but ya don't want to hear that

:kuzanshut:
It's the first time I read something like this.
What would be the parallel between Law and Oden, what inherit Law from Oden or how is Oden a benchmark for Law?
Except for being swordsmen and strong characters, they share nothing.

Oden is partially a parallel and a benchmark for Zoro (strong samurai, Enma wielder, Kaido opponent) and mostly for Yamato (self proclamed new Oden).

1. Both are strong willed characters who don't take orders from others
2. Both sailed with the respective Pirate King crew
3. Both are interested in learning the true history
4. Law might share the ability of hearing Poneglyphs, an ability Luffy coincidently lacks.

and more

actually, sanji has a roger's counterpart too
Buggy is more of a Ussop.

Yamato if she joins easily takes the role of Oden as a combatant while Robin already have the role of dealing with the polneglyphs. Rayleigh was always VC even after Oden joined, and was likely stronger as well.

One of the recurring theme of the series is that people will somehow inherit the will of the ones that came before them. Even unconsciously. For example let's think about Noland and Calgara, and the legend of Shandora. They dreamt to meet each other again, and ringing the golden bell as a way to proof to the world what they said was true. But they could not fulfill their dream, and they died. But their will was inherited: time flew, and flew, and at a certain point a certain man named Monkey D. Luffy comes along and rings the bell, showing that the Sky Island really exist, somehow linking Noland and Calgara again.
Some time before, a certain man, who used to wear the same hat Luffy received from Shanks at the start or the series, also reached Skypiea. But it wasn't "the time".

Point is that there's a strong bond between some certain main figures from the past and from the current present, to the point some of the first ones serve as concrete benchmarks for the second ones. For some characters you can even suggest some kind of progression of benchmarks they have, for different reasons, to reach and even surpass.

Luffy = Shanks (mentor and contendent) -> Roger (Pirate King) -> Joy Boy (legendary/mythological figure)

Zoro = Mihawk (mentor and contendent) -> Rayleigh (Pirate King's right hand man, and a king on his own) -> Sword God Ryuma (legendary/mythological figure)

Blackbeard = Xebec (maybe his son, maybe his reincarnation, maybe both; anyway, he knows him, admires him and wants to follow a similar path, that's for sure)

These are a given, I think.

Other could be:

Chopper -> Crocus
Yamato -> Oden
Sanji -> Scopper Gaban
Jinbe -> Sunbell
Franky -> Seagull Nozdon

Law and Kidd could be, both together, a mixture of something similar of what was Whitebeard for Roger.

Smoker was always implied to be "the new Garp" but with Punk Hazard Arc, Oda destroyed him. Maybe he changed his idea and moved that role to Koby? But the latter, albeit potentially very strong, is almost not relevant to the story, up to now, at least.

Sometimes Oda even autoquotes himself, mixing some elements to differentiate the new from the old. Hody is the remake of Arlong. Doflamingo and Dressrosa are the remake of Crocodile and Alabasta. Wano/Onigashima has elements from Alabasta (King vs Zoro is similar to Mr. 1 vs Zoro, Luffy loses multiple times to Kaido like he did to Crocodile), Enies Lobby (the amount of 1 vs 1 fights), Thriller Bark (the awaited dawn and what not).

What do you think?

I agree with this, if Zoro culminates in Ryuma's legacy while Luffy culminates in Joy Boy and Nika's legacy, i think Blackbeard should also have a culmination after Xebec. Forbidden One Exodia or something lol.

The chapter titled "Inherited Will" was literally about Chopper choosing to carry on the legacy of his adoptive father and you think he inherited the will of fucking Crocus?

How can you read 1000 chapters and not understand one of the core themes of the series?

Actual examples of inherited will:
Shanks -> Luffy
Hiriluk -> Chopper
Kuina -> Zoro
Tom -> Franky
Nico Olivia -> Robin
Zeff -> Sanji
Fisher Tiger and Otohime -> Jimbei

You realize the entire point of inherited will is carrying on the legacy of those close to you, right? It doesn't mean having some shallow """""parallel"""""" with a pirate who sailed with Roger.
No, Sanji did not inherit the will of Scopper because there is nothing connecting them other than "muh third strongest"
There was an entire fucking speech spelling out what inherited will means in Chopper's flashback. Hell, the chapter it happened in was literally called "Inherited Will" because Chopper inherited Hiriluk's dream to cure all diseases

How the fuck could you misread a story so badly after 1000 chapters?

I mean there's literally a character who took on Oden's entire identity
