--In the latest chapter we see imu having the ability to turn giants to devils/demons with a contract. Imu gunko also looks like devil which looks similar to devil figure at the left side of mural.

--This also strongly suggest that imu is forest god or is related to it given the second world text includes "The forest god tamed demons" which look similar to making devil contracts. Imu also was joyboy opponent during second world.

--This leaves the question of what is going to be the role of earth god in current era.

--I have seen some saying that imu , forest god and earth god are same but then why are they known as two different gods?

--Luffy , joyboy and nika all are sun god. It doesn't make sense for both forest god and earth god to be same being where as nika and his reincarnates all known as sun god.

--Blackbeard being related to earth god is good possibility given he will be endgame villain and just like BB has darkness fruit , earth god in first world shrouded the world in death and "darkness"

--Imu also seemed to be interested in 3 beings in reverie - Poseidon (Storm god) , Luffy (Sun god) and BB (Earth God)

I think these beings are just powerful individuals from the past like others and they managed to form a permanent legacy and the size of the conflicts were so big that they started being revered as such. Look at how Wano revered its legend. Look at how Sabo is suddenly the Flame Emperor and face of the Revolution, when his story will be told by those who have not actually really seen him or just witnessed one of his impressive feats they might start calling him Flame god or such.

Most of these are about people who as VP theorized desired such types of power and got them in the form of devil fruits.

I think people are forgetting that Imu himself has been allueded to be a king of the Nerona family by Ivankov. Most likely he got a busted DF which he is shown using and combined it with the immortal surgery done on him and which granted him so much power.

There is also the idea that not all royal families were happy with this or the current Figarland one is not and they have not made the pact with Imu like the others and hence may stage an internal revolt too.

I am not sure why oda gave different names to gods if they are suppose to same being. Skypeans worshipped 4 different gods and earth god seemed distinct from forest god.

That’s not an uncommon thing in polytheistic religions. Most common example would be Egyptian god Ra who had three different identities depending on the time of day.

Also the forest god in other translations “tamed demons” not created them. I’m not fully convinced this is Imu as the taming of demons could also fit with Elbafs God of War who became the god of the giant and oni (demon) race.
