Smoker and Cracker can't hurt Kaido, and the guy you're quoting never said that they could.

"Ryou" is not the requirement for hurting Kaido.
so what is

How'd we know Smoker or Cracker can hurt Kaido? Killer is a weapon user too and I am sure he's a confirmed CoA user, yet he couldn't hurt Kaido with his Punishers and needed to rely on his Sonic moves to do so. Luffy couldn't hurt Kaido because he doesn't have the barrier variant. Just so we're clear, all Scabbards can use the barrier variant.
I honestly thought ryuo was barrier haki

Yeah, most people see it the same way but it's not. Ryou is just the general term for CoA in Wano. So when they say Ryou, it refers to all 3 variants on CoA. Kaido said swords don't work on him when the Scabbards were about to attack him, but then he concluded that they were using the same Ryou(CoA) as Oden implying they were using one form of advanced Haki.

I'm pretty sure when the fandom says "ryuo," they mean ACoA as in either barrier/emission CoA or internal destruction CoA.

From my understanding, just being able to harden your weapon with it is not ACoA, but being able to send flying slashes that contain haki should logically require emission CoA, which is considered advanced.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure ryuo can just refer to CoA in general.

I guess it should classify as such since the sword is not meant as self coating armament but a projection but this is Oda san so hey
