Speculations Is Gear 5 a drug?

#1
Using it takes away Luffy’s pain and puts him in a state of bliss, causing him to laugh uncontrollably

Isn’t that just what drugs do?

idk about you, but G5 doesn’t seem to healthy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Luffy got addicted to using it. Or if it gets harder and harder for him to reach the same levels of happiness the more he uses it.

The laughing part is cringe. But G5 is the usage of his DF to the maximum just like G4 is the use of his haki to the maximum. When timelimit is over he needs time to restore his DF/Haki.

This would actually be interesting, like a dark passenger that gives you great power but asks for a terrible price. But it will never happen. G5 is just the peak of freedom, toonforce, reality warp, with a downside to not make it too broken and so acceptable by the readers who don't want to see a Gary Stue.

I think Real Nika does take over during G5.
But luffy being a strong Conqueror takes the front seat during that time.
Consider it like Kurama inside Naruto....
Kurama does take over sometime.

Loda would never write something interesting like this

instead we get godfy

Luffy has been blood doping and inhaling enhancements since Enies Lobby
:myman:
Become stronger at any cost if you walk the path of freedom

It is not meant to be a metaphor or drug but it makes people think at drugs anyway. After all it does the exact effect of what drug does to people. But,as it is not a metaphor or it,i dont think there will be downsides, except the ones we already saw of Luffy being tired right after, but those are downsides for every transformation in battle mangas.

its very similar to the energy steroids from the tamate box. turns your hair white, turns your eyes red, changes your personality. sulong from minks are same way. are all of these just ancient experiments with nika fruit
Thats a very interesting catch! Its true they are very similar! Probably Hody's pills were some sort of ancient experiment, after seeing Nika. But Sulong transformation seems to be a natural thing from Minks, not artificial,so i dont know about that. Maybe its a sign of connection between Nika and Minks, maybe Minks can be considered divine creatures too,who knows.

I hate when you guys say (pardon my tone) dumb shit like this because it feels like you guys are reading Two Piece.

Oda emphasized that Zoans have extra influence over their wielders, and that some Zoans lose control during their transformations. Hell many people thought Saturn wasn't speaking *specifically for that reason*.

Luffy not taking shit serious has bit him the ass in the form of 3 Vegapunk corpses. His lifespan shortening when restarting I can agree got devalued in Impel Down, but its still there. "Dark Passenger" yeah, lets give Luffy a forgettable and generic as fuck Hakuba transformation because "Evil" ="Cool". Not like that flies in the face of his dreams, personality, and general theme of finally being strong enough to truly do what he wants.

Luffy isn't accidentally killing people in a blind cringe rage, he's just fucking around when he shouldn't be. One of these fits Luffy as a character and has been something he's struggled with for a while, another one is forced drama that requires Oda to either hate or devalue side characters.

Man, pay attention to how Zoan Awakenings work. Nika is "The Sun God" or otherwise known as "Joy Boy", who went around liberating people and spreading laughter wherever he went. Joy means Happiness and laughter. That's the basis of Luffy's Zoan transformation. In MOST instances of Zoan awakenings, the person loses control, and the Devil Fruit takes over completely. Only those with strong wills can fight against the effects of the Creature/Animal/God the Zoan is based off of, but they can't completely control it. The reason Luffy bursts into fits of laughter, is because "Joy" Boy is the entity of the Zoan Devil Fruit.

Maybe dark passenger was not the best terme but what I mean isn't somebody taking his place like Hakuba for Cavendish but a power akin toba drug: it will give you pleasure/power in the short term but the usage of it actually has a price and not the generic "lifespan decrease" that could be expended with a convenient flashforward after EoS where it is said Luffy died relatively young. Or maybe nothing happens at all.

So what I mean is that an ability that gives you great power but demands a terrible price. For example you can turn G5/Nika (and that is already something thay Luffy get on a gold platter) but for example each time you use you lose some of your memories bringing you potentially to forget everything about all your precious nakamas in time. That would actually make G5 a nasty bitch to deal with. You want the power to save your nakamas? Ok but you will forget something about them. Given OP thematics this will hit hard. Of course then there are other countless possibilities about the price to pay, this is just an example, just not the usual bullshit like "3 days in bed and everything is fine again" or the lifespan reduction which could even result in nothing.

Sorry about my initial tone, I tend to let other posting anger me and I end up saying rude shit on accident.
I can see what you want from the power up but TBH I'm already tired of Luffy getting a bunch of drawbacks to his abilities, and I still don't believe that turning Nika into a full "bargain with a higher power" fits into the story.

Kaido/Shanks/etc all don't have draw backs to their abilities, why should Luffy be the only one?

Don't worry, you seem an educate guy just by putting these premises. The toxic people are another thing completely.

It doesn't fit at all with the story, I know it will never happen, just like Oda becoming G.R.R.M. kill wise but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make the story better (at least imo). What I don't like about G5 is that it was a free power up, actually a deus ex machina which saved Luffy from death making him far stronger in the process. And it totally destroyed the underdog agenda making him the child of prophecy with the strongest legendary devil fruit ever (at least as far as we know). And the power is broken as hell, toon force/reality warp gives no limit fallacy while on the other hand he loses nothing, he has a time limit but that us just to create some tension when needed.

Thats fair, but from my perspective I had the "Oh this is a chosen one story" moment very early into the series.

People got mad at G5 reviving Luffy, personally I got just as pissed at Smoker literally having Luffy on an execution platform moments away from death only to conveniently be saved by his big shot dad. I expected something like Nika in Skypia, though I was expecting Luffy's chosen one status to be more like Dark Soul 1, where its a generic prophecy anyone like Joyboy could have filled. Garps reveal during Post Ennies Lobby basically cements the nepotism. Born of the worst criminal, grandson of the hero who caught roger, sworn brother of the pirate kings son and Revolutionaries No 2, VOA, Rogers spirtual successor, CoC, and his multiple miracles during Crocodile. Tbh, Nika just didn't feel all that different from the stuff he already had behind him imo. It also isn't that busted, it was called the most ridiculous power because of its wild and zany effects. Though I will admit it is just as busted as any other Mythical Zoan and that can ruin a bit of Luffy's initial creativity with the fruit for some. Personally I really like it because I thought explanations for stuff like G2/G3 were kinda dumb, but with G5s reality warping they make perfect sense and even turns those gears into unintentional foreshadowing.

I disagree that there is no price, Vegapunk died because Luffy wasn't serious enough in handling the threats. Oda seems to put extra effort into pointing out Luffy is having personality shifts during G5. It seems like a small thing for him to stall on answering who he is, but when asked Luffy *always* announces himself clearly "Monkey D. Luffy, future King of The Pirates!" especially to those testing him. Why else would Kaido even ask who he is? He's been fighting him the whole time!

tbh I feel Agenda's made me more aggressive here and has given a lot of the fandom a doomer perspective. But in my eyes Oda has finally gotten out of a whole saga of setup, and we're about to see all of its pay off. I'm finally going to see what that ludicriuosly prolonged meal prep was for.

Funny you mention G.R.R.M. kill counts, because I think Oda might actually pull the trigger during the final war. It would certainly give a lot of weight to many of the more incidental side characters if they died in the struggle...

The main character having thick plot armor is almost a given, I barely have no recollection of a light novel/manga/manhwa where the MC has no or little plot armor (maybe Reverend Insanity but that piece of work is pretty special lol) or special genetics/powers.

I was all for Luffy in the pre time skip since it never felt he was the chosen child, I accepted without problems also Dragon and Garp as his father and grandpa, but it was all good. Marineford was his baptism as the future hope of Roger, the one he was waiting but it was good since BB and Shanks in their own way totally over shaded him since he was still an ant and that role at Marineford was respected. But with post time skip Oda focused more and more on Luffy and less and less on the others and that was annoying as hell, the he getting gifted G5 like that felt like a cheat.

Anyway I don't really care about the manga since... Early post time skip I think, I want to see how it will end but I really not read it with "passion" anymore. I am/was a Zoro fan but post time skip he isn't getting the same development as pre time skip, in Wano he get good fights but nothing about sword/black swords, nothing about Ryuma.. meh. And don't get too involved in agendas, they are funny as hell and the reason I'm still here tho.
