I dont know about any mythical or folklore creatures that would fit how Imu has been depicted so far. We saw him eating Sabos fire attack and a silhouette of some creature which was much bigger than the Gorosei's. But whenever he has taken control over a host like Saturn or Gunko he comes out looking like a ghost or a parasite type shit with no real form and only using those long tentacles.
When Gunko used DR on Rocks he used the same tentacle type shit that he did on Luffy and Loki. But when Imu used it on Dorry and Broggy he used a magic circle type thing and did not come out of the host like that. For some reason the takeover and form reminds of Ghostfreak from Ben10.
Different topic but I am not entirely sure about the mecha heart thing of Sommers (maybe the Admiral fans will push this being a black heart).
