Imu could be a Demon King

"Demon King of Songs" Tot Musica

Not quite the "devil" but rather a representation of a specific brand of unholy that's close enough to say that it may as well be... something like that maybe

RATHER

Imu died, the human Imu, a long time ago. Now, after being controlled by the will of his own devil fruit, Imu is barely human at all anymore. It has ruined his body, spirit, and mind during the Void Century. Imu, the man, barely exists, but Imu the Great, the Great Demon, is alive and well.
Personally, I think the Demon King stuff is going to come back into the story. But, maybe not for Imu.

The "Demon Kings" seem to be masses of negative emotions. Like the opposite of the purer "desires" or "wishes" that create Devil Fruits. Devil Fruits come from "positive" wishes, Demon Kings are the result of "negative" wishes...maybe. So, I thiink it's more likely that if and when we next see a Demon King, it's more of a "wild" or "untamed" force, rather than something that speaks in complete sentences. So, if my read of the situation is correct, that might eliminate Imu as a "Demon King". Imu is just acting too human-like to JUST be a mass of negative emotions given form.

The Abyss Mark system may be the "egg" form of a Demon King, though. Imu MIGHT be manipulating the power of a Demon King, without actually being a Demon King, themselves. Using up the Demon King Energy might actually be keeping the Demon King asleep?

The Four Gods themselves might be more "positive" versions of the Demon Kings. "Dream Energy Constructs" that are the result of never-ending, or maybe just difficult-to-achieve dreams. The difference between a "God" and "Demon King" may just come down to what kind of wish formed them? Is the wish "helpful" or "hurtful"?

But, I think Oda's going a different way than that, entirely. Take another look at that version of Tot Musica. Notice the 3 Skulls. VERY similar to Blackbeard's 3 Skulls on his jolly roger. And the 3 Skulls Little Oars Jr had as a necklace. Oda's cooking something, here.

I think we're more likely to see the "Demon King Davy Jones" rather than have Imu be revealed to be a Demon King, personally. But, that kind of depends on what Davy Jones actually turns out to be. Is it possible that the Davy Back Fights actually caused a Demon King to be born, back in the day? Much like how Tot Musica seemed to have been created by the wish for "Everyone to listen to my music and never, ever leave". I think it's possible that Davy Jones could have been created by a wish for "All the strongest people in the world should fight for the privilege to join my crew!". A dream that had no real clear goal, and thusly couldn't find a way to end. A dream that never ends becomes a dream that becomes corrupt. A dream that never ends eventually turns into a nightmare. I think this could be along the lines of what Oda is going for, which he alluded to with Blackbeard's iconic line.

Of course, I suppose it could be both of them, and we could get a Kaiju fight between Davy Jones and Imu in their Demon King forms. But, my money's on us seeing a different kind of Demon King by the end of the story.

Because, I personally think that the most likely scenario is that any potential Demon King will come from "Forbidden Sun" of the First World in the Underworld. It kind of makes sense for a Demon King to be in the Underworld, at the core of the planet. I could see a "Demon King" actually being the true final boss of this entire story. Not Imu, not Blackbeard, but the accumulated hatred and fear of the entire planet given form. I feel like this is the most likely scenario, if the Demon King lore is to come back into the main story.

There's a few different ways Oda could bring the Demon King lore back into the main story. But, I do think it's going to come up again. One way or another.

People should always factor in that Zoro is the pinnacle of existence that Imu spoke about, because Zoro is a Demon God.
