Break Week Is it acceptable to dislike an arc because your favorite was done dirty?

I'm gonna use Sanji and Zoro since I know they have a lot of fans.

Imagine Oda writes a 10/10 arc his Magnus opus, but in that same arc, Zoro gets one shot by Mihawk, gets up goes looking for him then gets beat up by a bunch of fodder this late in the story, then he gets up and gets beat up again but this time by Mihawk's bamboos .

Sanji crossdresses again, gets nose bleeds like in FMI, then gets beat up by Buggy or Foxy basically gets no diffed by one of them. Would the negative treatment your favorite character received negatively impact the way you rate that arc even if it's 10/10?

To me personally, it'd be like getting a really well made dish, but just before the cook serves it to you, he spits in it, now I know it'll probably taste good, but I'm definitely not giving the dish regardless of how well made it is a chance because of the spit

Of course it's acceptable to dislike an arc because of that. There are many reasons why one might not enjoy/like an arc personally.

There is a huge difference between personally disliking an arc because of the reasons you mentioned and going out proclaiming that the arc is objectively bad.

Just another example: I personally don't enjoy watching Schindler's list for example. Therefore can't enjoy it. I can still say that it's objectively a great movie with superb script and top notch actors.

Always distinguish between personal enjoyment/preferences and objective criticism.

As the official gatekeeper of the forum AND the fandom, I hereby decree that no, you can NOT dislike an arc just because your favorite character was done dirty. It is morally repugnant and completely unethical to do this, so I say you shall not do it, lest you suffer the consequences. Capeesh?? :watchout:

If any of this happens without a good reason, then it automatically disqualifies the arc from being 10/10. It can't possibly be Oda's Magnus Opus with one of the MCs being so poorly written in that arc.

I think its fine so long as its reasonable and indicative of bad writing. Like being upset because Hawkins got shat on doesn't really make sense because he was never an important character to begin with.

But personally I'd be beyond pissed if Kid and Law lose to big mom, just because Oda has built them up to be rivals of Luffy and them losing would destroy the thing that made their characters so important to begin with. It also makes big mom's inclusion into wano a very questionable decision.
