Certainly nothing’s impossible in One Piece, but this would be gilding the lily a little too much. Usopp’s journey would be much more fulfilling if he reaches his dream because he finally conquered his fears through the travels and battles he’s accumulated and will continue to accrue. Having his lineage inspire him wouldn’t be the worst thing, it just feels a bit cheaper than him getting there of his own volition.

Ussop is Yassop's son; his inspiration to be "a brave warrior of the sea" come from his father identity as famous pirate. His lineage always play a factor in his dream.

Like I said, anything like the topic of this thread would be a hat on a hat. He’s already chasing his father’s back, what impact would it really have for him to also live up to the Montblanc name (which isn’t exactly respected in the OP world)?

Well think about it. Montblanc Noland wasn't a liar, but went down in history known as one. Usopp is a liar, but everything he lies about ends up coming true, so in essence he actually isn't a liar.

Montblanc Cricket wanted to restore the Montblanc name and prove his ancestors innocence. If Montblanc Usopp the liar, is actually recognized as someone who technically never lies, and becomes known throughout the World as such, then by EoS, the Montblanc name is restored. I mean, we can ever take it one step further and say that's what Yasopp as been trying to do, but he will fail where his son succeeds.

I'm more partial to Usopp being a D but would not be opposed to that ^ at all. The only thing that really throws it off, is how would Usopp not know what his own last name is this entire time. Unless he only knows Bachina's last name, and she never told him his fathers last name or vice versa.

THE most galaxy brain shit I’ve ever seen here...regardless, I agree with your overall point, but why does he have to be related to Cricket to clear the man’s name? His other exploits would paint him as a trustworthy source like you said; he’s close with the Tontatta tribe, all of whom know the truth about Cricket and can vouch for Usopp in front of the world; we don’t know enough about Yasopp or his motivations to say he could be doing the same thing, but Usopp besting his father would add another layer of credibility without ascribing his accomplishments to his ancestor.

I’m not saying any of this would be bad if it came to pass, I just think it’s unnecessary in the grand scheme of the story. There likely will be some global redemption for the Montblanc family when Usopp and his friends have reached a certain level of notoriety, but that doesn’t have to come on the back of his genetic connection with them.

I mean it would work out in the sense that Usopp lies about being a Montblanc (Like he did with the Tontattas), and people end up believing him despite it not actually being the case, and through that he inadvertently clears the Montblanc name through the one lie that doesn't end up becoming true. That'd be some poetic justice that the liar clears the "liar's" (who actually isn't one) name.

But yeah, I stick to my guns on him being a D though. I have a feeling that the D clan is going to have a major connection to the giant race, and it will further increase his standing among them.

Honestly, just after this exchange, I’d rather have Usopp turn out to be a D than a Montblanc. Makes more sense considering his arc and what he represents, this is a story about the former way more so than the latter.

I actually wouldn’t mind if Usopp’s real name was Montblanc D Usopp

What if the Montblanc’s are a member of the D clan

That would be an acceptable twist, but again, feels like a lot of effort just to make Usopp stand out. Even if the author hadn’t said he wanted the long nose to be the weakest crew member so as to be relatable, I would still want him to accomplish his dream on his own volition more than his lineage (which will be important anyway by virtue of being Yasopp’s son). It’s cool for the main character, and I don’t mind knowing about Sanji’s family even if they were introduced in an arc I despise, but with the only other SHP whose family plays a part in the present or future storyline, his arc is more impressive if he learns to overcome his fears because HE found the strength in himself (or outsiders who aren’t related to him by blood).
