I feel like this is the biggest problem with this arc.
Captain trio vs kaido seems like Oda's original plan. He introduced the captain trio in sabaody and then post skip, you had luffy allying with law to beat kaido while Kid was defeated and imprisoned by kaido.
Pre-reverie, almost everyone expected kaido to be defeated by the captain trio, with other characters like zoro possibly getting big moments against him. However what absolutely nobody expected was for Oda to rush the series like he did by unnecessarily forcing big mom into the arc and having Luffy 1v1 kaido.
It seems painfully obvious to me that big mom was included in wano simply because Oda wanted to get rid of her and give Kid/Law some hype without having to really put much effort in either characters. I think this treatment basically butchered the characters of Kid and Big Mom. Kid was set up to fight kaido. Kaido defeated him, imprisoned him, and fed Killer a defective SMILE. Yet Kid didn't get a single good moment against kaido. Instead you have him chasing big mom for god knows what reason. Big Mom on the other hand was given awful portrayal. Oda didn't bother to actually show off her strength in the big mom fight and instead only focused on the fight in the moments where Kid and Law got their big hits. This ultimately leaves Linlin looking much worse than how Oda wants us to think she is.
But I think it might honestly be worse for Luffy. Luffy has been handed an obscene amount of power ups to 1v1 kaido. First he got ACoA, which was fine. But then he got ACoC out of the blue with no foreshadowing. I thought that was a bit of an asspull, but okay. Then he was 1 shot and subsequently came back strong enough to split the sky. Now he got defeated again and Oda is hinting at this whole legendary DF shit. It just feels so forced and imo it would have been much better if Linlin was never in this arc and Kaido was 3v1ed by Luffy, Kid, and Law with the fight maybe turning into a 1v1 at the very last chapter.
Honestly the theories for wano were much better than the actual canon. I remember how it was a huge theory that moria would show up and help Luffy go nightmare Luffy again in order to beat kaido. That would have been so much better than the utter dogshit writing that we are currently getting.
