Shanks obviously can't do as much with swordsmanship with one arm. He can't use a shield, can't wield two swords, can't wield a two-handed sword. Even if he can do the Gentle Blade just as well as the Strong Blade (which I doubt), he's really only able to use one-handed swords like sabers.

I personally never worshipped VIZ because it's not even the official translation of my country and while Stephen is usually better than fan TLs, he still does take liberties sometime.
It's funny how for some users VIZ switches from words of God to fraudulent depending on the chapter tho
