Not only was God Valley a large scale conflict with the goal not being to fight but to save Shakky and steal treasure

To top it all off it took place in a flashback

If you expected anything more than a few clashes then you haven’t been paying attention to any flashback prior to this one. Not a single flashback fight has ever been long or fleshed out

Marineford is an example of how something like this is supposed to go (and even then it took place in the present so it isn’t the same)

Marineford is clash piece 101 except people have nostalgia goggles on. We didn’t stick to a single fight for more than 2-3 pages before cutting away if that

Marco kicks Kizaru -> cut to Aokiji fighting Jozu for a page -> cut to Whitebeard clashing with Akainu -> cut to Jinbei attacking Moria -> cut to Vista clashing with Mihawk

And that’s because the goal wasn’t to defeat the Marines but to save Ace. Every character was doing their best to accomplish that goal and that’s what Oda chose to focus on

The Final War is more like Onigashima in that victory is directly tied to defeating all of their opponents. We’ll get fully fleshed out fights because the sole goal of the alliance will be toppling the World Government through defeating them

the problem is Oda himself hyping this story up

You're correct but it's still so lame that most of the characters did nothing of value at all.

I mean Marineford is called the “War of the Best” and there wasn’t a single full fight

I do think there was a lot of unjustified hype behind it having seen the whole event

But it also comes down to fan expectations not matching the way Oda has ever written the story

Cause it sounds like if Marineford came out today people would complain just as much

Wah Wah Wah
Either read One Piece or don’t. There’s no need to dramatically make multiple posts incessantly whinging about it. Grow up.

There’s a persistent toxic part of the fanbase that will always whine and cry no matter what Oda does.

There were fights they were just mostly clashes

Marineford was also hyped up as a large scale conflict between the Marines and the Whitebeard Pirates

You wanna give me a single fight that we saw from beginning to end?

I’m not denying that God Valley didn’t fully deliver. I’m just saying that this is also a case of expectations not properly being managed

I think there is a legitimate aspect of people expecting too much which will get worse as we get farther into the story.

That said GV was far from perfect and many complaints are quite justifiable.

Oda's lacklustre approach to fights was not unexpected but still frustrating, this is a very action focused story regardless of lore.
my expectation was deadass the lowest

im damn near expecting rent a girlfriend level of combat bruh

>claims he hates negativity
>choose to comeback every single day to experience the thing he "hates"

u freaky asl
Never claimed to hate negativity. Just people making multiple posts just to incessantly cry left and right, while repeatedly claiming that they’re finally done reading One Piece. It’s obnoxious, and since I have nothing to do at work for the next 6 hours I have all the time in the world to point out the obnoxious immature behavior of the people who do that.
