I won’t litigate Jobin’s morality here, instead I’m gonna discuss his plan and his motivations for his plan.
A big part about the motivations of everyone involved in New Rokakaka fight is misunderstanding. By that I mean many people involved both Misunderstood what the new Rokakaka was and misunderstood why other people wanted it.
A clear example of this is Joshu’s gambit regarding giving Yasuho the fruit while imagining that he was going to fuse into one being with her like Josuke. Note that even Tooru was fine with just observing one of the fruits being lost because he too wasn’t sure what would happen.
Jobin is similarly misunderstanding what the New Rokakaka does because he thinks that it can cure the Rock disease curse PERMANENTLY. As in not just do what Caato did with Tsurugi and Tooru of having someone get sacrificed to cure the disease.
What Caato did was just a repeat of what she did to cure Jobin. Instead of the bully being sacrificed under the Johnny shrine to cure Jobin, this time she used Tooru as the sacrifice to cure Tsurugi. Nothing changed. The disease was just going to repeat all over again in Tsurugi’s children next, even with the new Rokakaka.
This was Jobin’s misunderstanding, he thought the New Rokakaka was going to completely cure the disease for the entire next generations to come even if it required a sacrifice for now with Tsurugi.
But why was Jobin thinking the New Rokakaka could do this? Same reason Joshu thought he could fuse with Yasuho, because of Josuke’s existence. Josuke is not a product of the New Rokakaka, he’s a completely new and unique life form with NO PAST and an entirely new Stand to demonstrate that.
This is what both Jobin and Joshu thought the New Rokakaka did. They thought it creates things like Josuke. Entirely NEW BEINGS. This is what Jobin wanted. The only way he saw he could break the Higashikata curse was recreating his son as a new being. A new being WITH NO PAST and therefore NO CURSE.
And Jobin was kind of right. This technically could have cured the Curse. A new being with NO PAST can defeat the Curse. It’s just that The new Rokakaka isn’t what creates such a new being. The Earth does. The weird confluence of events that created the New Rokakaka and the wall eyes, the Johnny’s shrine and Kira and Josefumi. That’s what broke the Higashikata curse. The Creation of Josuke who can Go Beyond the logic of Curses and break them.
