Character Discussion Kaido... Had potential but Oda neglected him so badly...

#21
As a fighter he didn't disappoint, as a character we don't really his full story but it seems interesting

He was there during god valley, he somehow became like a little brother to big mom, he was experimented on by vegapunk himself, he views onis as superior to humans and thinks that humans only help other creatures because they fear them, he knows about the void century and joyboy, he wanted to go to marineford for unknown reasons which seem really fishy because he didn't bring his whole crew with him

So I'm gonna wait for a flashback

I think we might get a Kaido flashback later in the story, like it happened with Arlong. We got to know Arlong's past in the FI flashback, and we might get to know Kaido's past only when the time of the Rox flashback will happen, which could happen during Onigashima or later in the story

-in his introduction: the strong lives and the weak dies, that is the only rule of this world
-in wano: kaido doesn't kill people

i don't even think that a good flashback will change my mind about his mediocre portrayal so far,
-he is too stupid to lead
-he is easily manipulated (hawkins lied to him about the oden castle, and big mom forced him into an alliance)
-and he was barely present in his own arc.

so his dream is to create a world of violence, but his actions clearly contradicts that. we never saw him lead any "sane" campaign that that had a theme of violence, the only thing that comes to that is destroying bakura town and oden castle and even that was done in a drunken state. and when he regained his sanity he instantly gave up on catching law and got right back to drinking, he is lazy and he doesn't even enjoy what he does.
all the violent actions gets carried out by his underlings, not because he ordered them to do it, but because that's their nature.

the torture, the prisons and manual labour camps are orochi's idea not kaido's.

The racial superiority elitism is something I deeply despise even in fiction but undeniably every massively negative trait can hold hype and potential eventually.

Well, do you actually think Kaido had potential in the first place? Judging just for his intro alone, I was scared of the potential threat he could be for our protagonist. Oda's worst decision to date in my book is making the decision of develope goofy samurai Orochi and the scabbard retaliation plotline. Oda could have gone straight to Kaido's backstory in act 1 and 2, alongside his crew (numbers, calamities, and F6), so we could've known their motivations and personalities a lit bit more. kaido's tendency to commit suicide, his Rock's past and his relation to Wano country (endgame material) and his beastly appareance and presence. How the fuck could you reck such potential?? That is beyond me. He could have been a great villain , better even than Doffy, but Oda just didn't care at all, and now, everyone hates Kaido for being bland and uninsteresting in his own arc. I am dissapointed but it is how it is.
Because wanking a long-dead character like Oden, repeating how Momoron believes something can't be done, making Otameh save the day, and overusing Kin's flatulent jokes are more important for Oda than writing Kaido as a great villain and a legitimate threat. :josad:

Kaido individually is a great antagonist so far, his pathetic crew(aside from King and Queen) just make the arc looks bad.
Kaido hater just hate him(especially the Admiral and Mihawk fandom) because he is the world strongest.

If there's anything someone dislike about Kaido as an antagonist regarding killing people, creating stakes, tension, etc. They should blame Oda.
He make him too strong in the beginning, now he needs to nerf his character, and make him waste time for the purpose of plot.

Not killing Luffy eventhough he has many chances, the Scabbard could have already died by his hands too but for some reason he doesn't.
Kaido who's known for being brutal and love destruction now falls under Oda's tactics so that nobody has been killed by him till now.

In terms of fighting feats, there's no disappointment in him. He is a villain who kick the most asses in just one arc ( Enel is a close second).
People who downplay him interms of the feats he's shown so far are just plain stupid.

The only less interesting about Kaido is his still very vague. There's not much we know about him as a character, that's why we need his flashback to fully flesh out his character.

Ofc he had potential, but "had" is the key.
The last interesting thing related to him was when he decapitated Orochi, that was dope. Ofc "was" is the key, again, since that was wasted and Orochi is still alive.

He is only strong. And for example, Pacifistas were strong as well at that time when introduced :suresure:

Tbh, I wanted Kaido to be a bland character, just a pure battle machine. Not everyone needs to be a deep character, Lucci for example wasn't. Kaido being a bland, battle machine the classic ogre. Some depth would be nice but he doesn't need to be that deep as a character imo.
That is a legit opinion. Never saw it this way.

Before Wano, I watched HxH Chimera Ant Arc for the first time and I wanted Kaido to be like Meruem so bad. To first start as a brutal, strong creature with no personality and then developing his character to be more human.

Why do you aim to speak for "everyone", just speak for yourself.

If commonfolk like you know this, don't you think an author who has been writing for years and who has worked under many other authors know this?

Kaido is exactly what Oda wants him to be.
