Kaido gives me strong Nagato vibes from Naruto. Both wanted to be the savior but both massively failed and went down a dark path. Both gave the MC one of the hardest match-ups where they lost multiple times until a demon/god bailed them out
Nagato wasn’t a reincarnation but he was off-handedly of Senju and Uzumaki descent. Kaido could just be offhandedly descended from Joyboy but he never was supposed to have a special role

Almost every major character has lineage connections to the past
Japanese culture and storytelling favors blood-related connections with the concept of “Fate/Destiny” making its way down several generations
Luffy, BB, Law, Vivi, Roger, Ace, Xebec, all D. clan members
Doffy, Shanks, Bonney, all descended from Celestial Dragons
Even Zoro is distantly descended from Ryuma
Kaido’s emphasis as being “Joyboy” in the past means he must be connected to someone in the Void Century. No random pirate would have the potential to become the next Joyboy without the proper genetics

I do believe that Kaido is connected to JoyBoy by blood and Luffy by spirit.
Kaido being descended from an ancient giant? Maybe that’s why he bought the numbers but honestly would downplay all the lore of being an oni, which ain’t the same thing
