I haven't kept up with Boruto, but as far as I read returning characters were actually much weaker as adults than they were during the 4th war, which makes me think everything in Boruto is a joke.

I wish that was the case, but I don't even know if Boruto has surpassed his father or not to call them outdated. Didn't read that far if it happened. There was no need. Them being weaker was obvious since the very earliest chapters and it sucked hard, among other things.
