If you are lucky and JUST get the best of the best traits in the perfect place? Fair enough but as Oda shows that shit is far less likely than you ending up horribly nerfed.
Like, have you SEEN how Killer would have ended up if his smile fruit worked? My man would have been nerfed to be weaker than his Pre-Skip power. Which, lets be real the fact Smiles also sometimes just do not work and make you a constantly giggling person who cant swim is a major indication how ass they are.
The Wano Alliance had plot armor, if Tama did not save their ass Oda would have just had Kaido accidentally collateral diff 90% of his army while fighting Luffy or some shit like that lets be real.
As for Kaido trying, he sure did but gotta admit it is funny as fuck that if Kaido event went to the Holy Land and tried shit Imu would have legit turned everybody but Kaido and perhaps Big Mom if she joins him into his demon soldiers. Kaido would have legit delivered Imu his army he spent lord only knows how long building up on a silver platter.

A fodder in Kaidos crew in my mind is still a stupid concept. Like, a fodder no name crew member of Kaido should probably still be like Pre-Skip Luffy level or something. They should not be so disposable that risking them to all turn into weird freaks at worst who can no longer fight is worth it.
The Smile fruit concept would work for me if they were all like Momo and besides some color being weird they legit got just zoan powers.

Nah pre skip Luffy bullies this fodders, he was beating warlords and strongest Hancock's subordinates even pre skip.

Sad thing is, the gifters seemed pretty promising in Zou with Sheepshead and that one wolf arm guy, but Oda retconned them to be much worse in Wano, for his braindead, unfunny gags with them.
Sure they were still inferior to Zoans initially but what he did with them in Wano is some of the most trashtastic writing I've ever seen.
