Character Discussion Katakuri is more a Marco/King or a Yamato/Ace ?

Here a thread about Katakuri.

We have the 3 Yonko crews we have seen for now :

WBP, BMP and BP

Each had a top commander with Marco King and Kata. All of them were the clear strongest outside of the captain.

Yet Marco and King didn’t have what needed to take the lead or to replace one day the captain or to go higher than their rank.

Those special members inside WBP and BP crew were Ace and Yamato. Both with enough potential to reach far higher than high tier status.

What is Kata place in all of this ? Is he a Marco/King or more of a Ace/Yamato ?

Kata is a special case : during BM rule he was indeed « only » a Marco/King type of member. A leader, the strongest, the guy people looked up to but nothing above that. BM never considered Kata as someone who will replace her or someone of higher rank. She had no expectations for him.

Even strength wise and power wise, Kata was around King/Marco and also has a gimmick FS (Lunarian and regen for the other two)

BUT :

Kata is not only that. He has a special thing and even two :

- he has CoC : yeah as opposed to Marco/King, Kata has CoC. It is definitely a special trait and something that tells us he has potential. Unreached for now, but still potential, potential to go higher than what he was.

And it’s no surprise that Ace and Yamato were the only ones in their crew with CoC outside their captains.

And in the BMP there were no special cases like Ace Yamato, the only one is Kata.

- his captain is no more : Kata captain is « dead ». BM is gone or at least not a threat / capable anymore. Kata is the one there to take the lead. His bros and sis can discuss about it but it’s no mistake that in the future Kata will lead the BMP and reach the captain status or even less formal of the leader status.

For me Kata was in a journey from Marco/Kata to Ace/Yamato and it’s his fight with Luffy that freed him from his shackles and allowed him to tap in his real potential. I think the man will def be stronger next time we will see him.

So for me Kata is both a Marco/King and a Ace/Yamato.

Katakuri is the First Mate but he's also a child of a Yonko/Great Pirate.

Kata got the special treatment among the other First Mates with the exception of Beckman.

A guy Linlin can't stand calling shots cause of she knows he's the true pillar of the crew
That's why she pulls out "mother-son" argument, she never talked bad about Katakuri's strength
Linlin did what Perospero does : Using Age/biological hierarchy to lead.

Katakuri is meant to directly and indirectly be the successor
BM didn't state it, but BMP did and Oda gave him : CoC
While Kaido & WB did wish for Ace & Yamato to lead

He’s neither. Ace and Yamato had the balls to stand up to their emperor and fight them. Meanwhile Katakuri is the only commander worth over a billion who has not fought an emperor

As for king and Marco, those two are too far beyond katakuris power level.

Maybe we should stop trying to force equivalencies with yonko crews that have no equivalencies.

Yeah but that is why he journeyed from being obedient and the expected son to « revolting » after his Luffy fight.

Letting Luffy to have a real fight with him and saying to him that he will come back for BM throne and not ending him when he could was his way of fighting BM authority or at least beginning to fight it.

It's PIS that only Luffy develops his Haki and not Katakuri as well during the fight.

I honestly don’t see a BMP worth leading. Ever since Wci the BMP have been treated like a meme.

Pero got off screened by Neko
Katakuri and oven lost to the Germa siblings
Cracker and all of chocolate town was destroyed by BB pirates

At this point, they’ll be best to give up piracy.

Hes a conqueror

When katakuri isn't restricting himself by putting up mental barriers on what he should be or has to be hes a monster. Like maybe you can argue that pre wci kata was more like the marco/king type but even during the arc he showed potential to be so much more. Even then before wci his family put him on so much of a higher pedestal than any other sibling including the other sweet commanders. Something marco/king dont really get too much of always being compared to characters like jozu (pre marineford) and queen

Like there's a clear difference in the reaction to katakuri and cracker's defeat even

Katakuri was trying to be what he thought his mother and siblings needed to be the best son and brother but at the end of the day he was just stunting his own growth by not being unapologetically him. He didn't even show off his conquerors haki until he took off the scarf and stopped caring what other wanted him to be but what he wanted instead

Now more than ever its time for him to step up and be not what he thinks his family wants him to be but who he wants. With big mom out of the picture and the blackbeard pirates raiding tottoland it really is up to katakuri to take charge and live his life the way he wants. He obviously loves his family but if he stays the way he is hes never going to be as great as he can be. He gave us a glimpse of his true self during his fight with luffy and now he needs to show everyone else what kind of man he truly is

Also side note i dont think its a coincidence snack was a previous sweet commander
