Pranks did something to him, which is why he(thinking it was Shanks) attacked the RHP over the timeskip.

Many of the celestial dragon villains we have got so far share backstories with a supernova

Law and Doffy
Bonney and Saturn

I think Kid and Pranks makes the most sense. Especially since Kid is a foil of Luffy and Shanks was a central figure in Luffy’s backstory. It only makes sense for Shanks’s foil to feature in Kid’s backstory.

Ultimately think Kid faces Pranks first and loses before Luffy saves him. Like with Law and Bonney.
