Oda having him skulk around looking for Poneglyphs suggest to me that will keep him out of play for a while so he can come in at a clutch moment in the Kaido fight.
He might run into Hawkins again prior to that since they’ve interacted a lot this arc, but other than that possibility I think he’s being kept out of the fighting.

Law being interested to know the meaning of the D means he will stick around till EoS and find out with Luffy

Firstly, not because everyone are fighting randomly like idiots and wasting their energy he must do the same
Secondly, he has an ability to take him right infront of Kaido if he wants to,
And third, Searching for the road poneglyphs was one of the goals of this raid!!

He is probably giving out his life to save Luffy's the way I see it. And in that case he will also grant him at least the timespan he lost due stressing out with his devil fruit.
In that case it would have made sense for Law to become a Doctor too and have the D., his destiny would be to perform an incredible deed once in his life.
