The whole concern is if you use a person's real image but write fake articles about them they can sue

My friends are starting a magazine and have just gotten a 67 thousand dollar loan between the two of them to start their enterprise. They want to pay models to pose nude and write the articles themselves that they feel appeal more to the audience. I keep trying to appeal to them morally but more importantly legally that I don't think they can do this even if they sign releases. It would be considered defamation to manipulate a persons likelihood and if they don't like it they can sue. Are their any lawyers on here that can back me up or paralegals?
