Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • All online capabilities such as visiting other towns and having friends visit yours will end.
  • Online (and Spotpass) DLC items will be unobtainable.
  • Tortimer Island, home to random play with up to four others both regionally and worldwide, will be effectively gutted. You can still visit the island alone, but all co-op functionality (interacting with others on the island, setting up minigame sessions) will no longer work.
  • Dream Suite, a place where you can share your town with others online, as well as visit others without the host needing to be there, will be shut down.
  • Multiple “badges” (i.e. achievements) will be unobtainable.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
  • Will be unable to share home designs online.
Bravely Default and Bravely Second
  • Default: Friends can no longer be added to help restore Norende.
  • Second: Ba'al data can no longer be shared.
  • Both: Friends can no longer be summoned or used for ability links (these are special combo abilities friends can save on their copy and then share to others for them to use in battle).
**Note: Online functionality has already ended as of summer 2023.
Dead or Alive: Dimensions
  • Online multiplayer will end.
  • Online-exclusive costumes will no longer be obtainable.*
*Note: These costumes have not been obtainable for years, but there was a hope they would be renewed one day.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
  • Online tablets will no longer be obtainable. There are 50+ of these, and they act as keys for new mini dungeons, some with exclusive content (weapons, armor, medals, catchable monsters, bosses).
Fantasy Life
  • Will lose online co-op (up to three players on your friend list). Note that online co-op will only work if players have the same versions (i.e., those with the DLC expansion can only play with others that have the expansion, vanilla users can only play with other vanilla users).
Final Fantasy Explorers
  • Will lose online co-op (up to four players).
Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Quite a bit of content exclusive to Spotpass will no longer be obtainable. Particularly noteworthy are six post-game, story-related paralogues that unlock full characters. For a full list, please see (potential spoilers): https://fireemblem.fandom.com/wiki/SpotPass
Kid Icarus: Uprising
  • Online competitive multiplayer will end.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes
  • Will lose online co-op (up to three players). This is notable because the game is designed like 4 Swords Adventures and losing that feature means you will only be able to play this with others locally, or with single player bots.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon*
  • Will lose access to the cooperative online multiplayer mode, “Scarescraper”, where up to four players can hunt ghosts in a level-based affair.
*Note: This game is being remastered and will release on the Switch in 2024 as “Luigi's Mansion 2”, with the online multiplayer intact.
Mario Kart 7
  • All online multiplayer will end. This includes, races, battle modes, custom modes, etc.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
  • Will lose online co-op (up to four players). Similar to Tri Force Heroes, co-op is a big part of this game.
  • Will lose competitive multiplayer mode Blast Ball.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
  • Will lose online co-op (up to four players).
  • Will lose the ability to download extra missions and hunts, some of which grant exclusive items.
Monster Hunter Generations*
  • Will lose online co-op (up to four players).
  • Will lose the ability to download extra missions and hunts, some of which grant exclusive items.
*Note: This game has a more complete version on the Switch called “Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate”.
Monster Hunter Stories
  • Online competitive monster vs. monster combat in an arena will end. Playing this mode unlocks special items pertaining to the Zelda DLC.
  • Will lose the ability to download extra missions, some of which grant exclusive items.
Pokemon X and Y and Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire
  • Will lose access to all forms of online functionality. This includes battles, trades (+ GTS), and more.
  • For these specific games, will lose access to the online PSS, which would actively update with other players online at that time and allow you to see their profiles, requests trades and battles, and give and receive special O-powers.
  • In XY the main non competitive post game feature the Friend Safari will essentially become pointless, as you'll no longer be able to request on forums for a specific type of safari or unlock the third slot to unlock the chance of encountering hidden abilities. Technically this will still be doable offline, but have fun finding anyone locally in 2024 still playing this game or carrying their 3ds around.
Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon
  • Will lose access to all forms of online functionality. This includes battles, trades (+ GTS), and more.
  • For these specific games, the Festival Plaza will be heavily neutered. This location is very similar to the “Join Avenue” from Black 2 and White 2 that allows players to effectively create their own set of shops and services, upgrading them over time with special coins. Coins are earned through a few ways, one of the main being special online missions given out. Content is version and even player exclusive, intended to be shared online with others (i.e. clothing dyes, shop items, etc.). See here for more details: https://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/festivalplaza.shtml

Professor Layton series (Miracle Mask, Azran Legacy) + Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle*
*Note: Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy is also on the Switch.
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright
  • Will lose the ability to download extra (daily) puzzles, special short story episodes, and art gallery items.
Resident Evil: Revelations*
  • Raid mode will no longer be playable online.
*Note: Resident Evil: Revelations is also on the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U. However, as with the 3DS version, Raid mode will no longer be playable online on the Wii U version as well.
Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson
  • Will lose online mission co-op.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker
  • Will be unable to download special demon packs through Spotpass.*
Note: Demon packs used to cycle on a weekly basis but the feature has been broken for years and only offers “Demon Pack 3”.
Story of Seasons
  • Will lose the ability to visit other players' farms and trade online.
Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
  • Will lose access to the multiplayer island where you can interact with others, trade, fish, complete activities and so on.
Super Mario Maker
  • Basically a useless game
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
  • Online multiplayer will end.
Super Street Fighter IV*
  • Online multiplayer will end.
Note: The non-3D version is available on numerous other platforms, with this one effectively out of date compared to the most recent “Arcade Edition” iteration.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call
  • Online versus mode will end.
  • Multiple achievements pertaining to versus will be unobtainable.
Yo-Kai Watch 2 (Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls / Psychic Specters)
  • Will lose access to all forms of online functionality. This includes battles, trades, and more.
  • Will no longer be able to download special coins to be used on the Crack-A-Kai.
  • For these specific games, the Blasters mode (up to four player co-op) will no longer be playable online.
Yo-Kai Watch Blasters (Red Cat Corps / White Dog Squad)
  • Will lose access to all forms of online functionality. This includes battles, trades, and more.
  • Will lose online co-op (up to four players). Similar to Tri Force Heroes and Federation Force, co-op is one of the main draws for this game, which itself is a heavily expanded version of the mode from Yo-Kai Watch 2.
Yo-Kai Watch 3
  • Will lose access to all forms of online functionality. This includes battles, trades, and more.
  • For this specific game, the Blasters T mode (up to four player co-op) will no longer be playable online.

as long as PokeTransporter and Bank are still functional with HOME, that's all I need tbh
Honestly same.

I gotta be brutally honest though, outside of Pokemon, Smash 4 and Mario Kart 7, very meh list of suckers tbh.

Who's even regularly playing 90% of the games listed here online? Maybe you can make an argument for Kid Icarus maybe.

I already know the "why are you defending the multibillion dollar company?!!!!"drones are seething rn but answer me this bro, when was the last time you played any of the 3ds Pokemon games online for more than 10 minutes? When was the last time you played MK7 for more than an hour?

Rendering the Friend Safari and Festival Plaza useless is gonna suck, but like everything you can find in safari is found even easier in the Switch games (hidden abilites)

And the Festival Plaza is ass. Nobody used it back then, nothing honestly changes now.
