I never thought Oda actually disliked one of his "main" characters, but If Elbaf ends with Usopp biggest moment being a 2 pages speech after he got negged by a cat at the beginning of the arc and he couldn't be bothered to give him more for the island he been dreaming about for the past twenty years, it is truly over.

I don't think Oda fucks with Usopp at all. Someone posted how the redraws of the East Blue volume covers have Usopp as the single OG5 who is completely in the background in the redraws, whereas Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami are taking center stage in the covers. Even Robin seemed to be in the foreground. This is very revealing imo on what Oda thinks about the character.

He will definitely give him something more though by the end of this arc, Sanji's quote this chapter means Oda is aware this island is important to Usopp. But it won't mean he doesn't think less of him than other Strawhats.

idont think carrot, he probs asked toie to give her a goodbye scene and he seems to like drawing her. i truly believe it to be smoker. he couldnt wait to drop that character. hope of the marines? no that was always koby in his eyes. smoker hasn't gotten shit in years

That's true and I don't know if this is a chicken or egg type thing and as a consequence of this he doesn't care for him anymore, just look at the volume covers. He has him blending in with the background while the other East Blue crewmembers are at the forefront. This argument is pretty infallible, it tells us a lot about Oda's psyche. He thinks of Usopp as background filler mostly.

I would use Nami as an example as a weakling who is still super prominent but she has the advantage of being the lead female so not the most fair comparison. Still the volume covers/colour spreads mean everything.

Did Oda promised you in the narration that Usopp would have a big moment in Elbaph?

I think every character is at the end a tool for the author, especially in works like One Piece. And they are just some in the SH that oda can use more and in varied ways over a long period of time. And its pretty obvious to see too, usopp is just not one of them.

Money/popularity plays a role too, obviously, but i dont think that what dictates odas hand primarily. If oda really dont want to fuck with Usopp, wouldn't he kill him? His death is already accepted by the fandom anyway to a degree, and it would free him, not making to force to plan for him, draw him, write for him, etc.

I, for example dont think Oda hates Zoro either, it just zoro as character was finished at the end of thriller bark and he is so bland and doesn't get his promised arc or moments cause oda just cant squeeze and narrative juice out of him that he wants in his manga

Bro... it's consistent. It's not just the one shot. This means everything to me. Literally it's as good as Oda fully admitting he doesn't fuck with Usopp, this is the most honest answer Oda can possibly give. He is taking his time drawing these colour spreads and he even has a reference to use since these are redraws, and Usopp is like background in his mind.

Just as a reminder of chapter 888 - yes because there are still people that didn't understand how much of a glaze that chapter was - look at this and come back to me to tell me that Oda "did not really like Carrot".

This is literally the definition of an author just having crazy fun with a character.

Oda loves his characters, even the bad ones. If he didn't he wouldn't take time to draw them, the guy function with his emotions.
