Powers & Abilities Loki's eyes

#22
I mentioned it a little in the chapter discussion. But, it turns out we've actually seen eyes that look kind of like this before in the manga. A few times, actually.

(On today's episode of Maury Povich, 5 men ask themselves "Am I the father?")

The Gorosei actually have very similar eyes in their "Yokai" forms. Which raises a question: Could Loki actually be a "natural" "Yokai" of some sort?

Is Loki actually a Yokai?!

Now, how could something like that happen? Well, as fun as it is to joke, I VERY much doubt Lady Estrid actually had relations with one of the Gorosei. That just seems fairly unlikely. If that had happened, she would still be their slave until she died, like with what happened to Ginny.

But, we've seen that Estrid was kind of a "New Age Crystal Girlie". She was very into the Feng-Shui-like art of the Earth-Wind Arts.

So, is it possible that when Estrid re-arranged all the furniture in Elbaph's castle, she actually accidentally created a sort of Abyss Mark of her own? If the Earth-Wind Arts are anything like Feng-Shui, then it's all about channeling and influencing the "energy" in a given location, in order to achieve favorable "flow" and results. So, maybe Estrid didn't actually know what she was doing. And she accidentally created some sort of "energy flow" around the castle that increased the "Abyss Darkness Energy" in the castle. Which affected Loki in the womb. Kind of like a baby being born with smaller lungs if the mother smokes, or something. The environment COULD have influenced Loki's growth. And we've seen other types of "Symbol Magic" in this story, like Miss Goldenweek's Color Trap or the Marys All-Seeing Eyes from Kaido's Beast Pirates. It's possible that Estrid accidentally tapped into something similar to Abyss Mark "energy".

And there is the OTHER pair of eyes that Baby Loki's eyes resemble. And that's the Dragon from Oda's old Ryuma/Monsters short from the Wanted collection.

(A tip of the hat to Nik87 for reminding me about this dragon's unique eyes.)

This specific Dragon has eyes that are VERY similar to Baby Loki's. And the Gorosei's. But, the Dragon's eye is actually a better match, because it also has a slitted pupil like Loki does.

And that actually WOULD make a lot of sense if Giants and Ancient Giants were all descended from Dragons like I've speculated about so long ago.

(You're daily friendly reminder that the dragons ARE coming. And they WILL be amazing!)

In fact, I think this one connection potentially explains something else that I've been wondering about for a little while.

Loki and Harald both have Ancient Giant blood in them. But, they look a fair amount different than the other Ancient Giants we've seen before in the story. Like Oars and Little Oars Jr. There seems to be two different types of Ancient Giants. The "Black Straight Horned" Ancient Giants like Loki and Harald. And the "White Curved Horned" Ancient Giants like Oars.

So, why would that be? Well, what if the explanation is that the two "races" of Ancient Giants are actually descended from two different types of Dragons? The "Black Straight Horned" Ancient Giants could be descended from "Western Fire" Dragons like we saw on Punk Hazard. And the "White Curved Horned" Ancient Giants could be descended from "Eastern Water" Dragons like Kaido and Momo's Dragon Fruit? Two types of Dragons resulting in mixed-race breeding with Humans to produce two types of Ancient Giants. I find this to be a very likely possibility at this point. Oda is DEFINITELY cooking up something with the Dragons for later on in the story.

As for why the Gorosei would have similar eyes? Well, they seem to get their powers through Imu. And Imu likely has some sort of "Dragon" form, if the attack on Sabo and Cobra in the Empty Throneroom is any indication. It also lines up with Imu being the "Tree Dragon" in the Chapter 1138 Mural. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the Gorosei have Dragon-like eyes because Imu has connections to Dragons in some form. Part of me even wonders if Imu could be a Dragon who ate a Human-God Fruit (Like the Forest God Fruit), instead of a Human who ate a Dragon Fruit. Imu might be the last living Dragon left on the planet, after Ryuma almost made them all extinct.

There is one point against this. We've seen another "Western Fire" Dragon before, and that one didn't have these same eyes. Dragon Number Thirteen from Punk Hazard just had "normal" googly eyes. He didn't have these Black and White Eyes. But, that was a artificial Dragon created by Vegapunk. So....maybe he got parts of it wrong? Or maybe it was recreated the dragon by splicing it with something else that changed it enough to remove the special eye trait from it? There are potential ways to explain it away. Even though, it's most likely that Oda just didn't think up this bit of lore, yet. But, who knows?

So, yeah, both Loki and the Gorosei likely have these similar eyes because they both have ties to Dragons, somehow. I think that's where Oda is going with this. Don't be surprised if we end up getting some Dragon lore dropped on us, eventually. At the very least, there's a couple of possibilities worth thinking about, I think.
