So I have seen a lot of misconception on this forum in regards to Luffy killing people. Specifically I have heard this in regards to the theory that Zoro will kill kaido, as, according to the supporters of this theory, Luffy cannot kill Kaido because Luffy does not kill.
Now I don't know where this idea arose, perhaps it is due to the fact that most comic book protagonists have some sort of code against killing. But I don't think Oda ever did or ever intended to turn Luffy into batman.
Luffy isn't a hero, he's ultimately a pirate. Yes, he is a "good pirate", but he still understands what it means to be a pirate. And pirates kill. Its what they do. Now obviously luffy has a moral code as to who he kills, most criminals have some moral code, but that doesn't change the fact that Luffy is a pirate and that pirates kill. In fact Luffy's mentor, shanks, literally had someone shot in front of Luffy's own eyes when the bandits tried to kidnap Luffy.
And we know that Gol D Roger killed people.
So if Roger kills and if Shanks kills, I don't see why Luffy wouldn't kill. Its not a question of if luffy would kill, its a question of who would be a big enough threat to Luffy that Luffy would need to kill them.
When directly asked about why Luffy doesn't kill, Oda said that its because Luffy has never needed to kill. Because by defeated his enemies, Luffy breaks their spirit and hence doesn't need to kill them, because he has already killed their ideals. This actually has worked in Luffy's favor as several of Luffy's old enemies, such as Buggy, Mr2, and crocodile, have actually come back as allies.
So now we come to Kaido. A man who's stamina and durability is already monstrous and on top of that, has likely awakened his mythical zoan DF. I could see Kaido's awakening being one of the most hax powers luffy has fought yet. Due to his awakening, he would recover moments after being knocked unconscious, allowing him to fight near indefinitely. This is how he was able to get up so quickly after taken what should have been a fight ending blow from Oden.
If this is the case, then simply knocking kaido out wouldn't be enough to deal with him. No, You'd actually need to kill him. And if Luffy was in the situation to where the only way to beat Kaido was to kill him, would he do it? I believe that all evidence points to him doing so. With his new internal destruction CoA, he would be more than capable of ending Kaido's life. Personally, I think the only reason why Luffy hasn't gotten a kill yet was because Oda was saving his first kill for someone special. With Kaido, who seems to enjoy suicide as a hobby, I think Luffy might actually get his first kill of the series this arc.
