Zoro is a CONQUEROR. He is a KING in his own way (King of Swordsmen).
Just like Luffy is a CONQUEROR and a KING in his own way (King of Pirates).
Also this is a clear parallel to Rayleigh being a Conqueror and a King just like Roger was a Conqueror and a King.

Luffy = Roger
Now it's clear as day.

The benchmark path for the Pirate King and his Right Hand plus WSS could very be like this:
Luffy's benchmarks = Shanks (mid generation), Roger (old generation), Joy Boy (legend from the ancient past)
Zoro's benchmarks = Mihawk (mid generation), Rayleigh (old generation), Ryuuma (legend from the ancient past)
The benchmark path for the Pirate King and his Right Hand plus WSS could very be like this:
Luffy's benchmarks = Shanks (mid generation), Roger (old generation), Joy Boy (legend from the ancient past)
Zoro's benchmarks = Mihawk (mid generation), Rayleigh (old generation), Ryuuma (legend from the ancient past)
Not gonna deny that Zoro/Sanji have a ton of parallels throughout the series as well, but to be completely confident that the hierarchy looks like this:

Is just being ignorant in my opinion. I know a lot of people on here trash Mr. Morj but this video sums up the M3 dynamic very well. Even the Wano arc follows the similar pattern where in the first half of Wano and the onigashima raid, the Luffy/Zoro duo was played up a lot, while in the second half of the raid it seems the Zoro/Sanji dynamic is being heavily playe dup
