The basis for the following argument:
https://worstgen.alwaysdata.net/forum/threads/luffys-real-df-ability-part-1.21886/
With regards to the potential awakening of his fruit, the distinction between being rubber and solely having the ability to manipulate his body's tensile strength would become the most crucial aspect.
1 My eliminating process:
1. 1 Unlike Doffy's or Katakuri's awakening
Following my line of thinking, it wouldn't make sense for his awakening to be similiar to the guys I named above, because he's not made of or turning into a particular substance and he's also not manipulating one.
I mean if he's not a rubber man, he's obviously not turning things into rubber.
1. 2 Unlike Kid's or Law's awakening
→ If you follow my line of thinking you would also come to the conclusion that his DF fundamentally differs from those I named above, so there's really no reason to assume, that he's going to have a similiar one.
2 His awakening: Enlargement
I think the one ability that would do very well for Luffy with regards to his already existing ones, is the one he already mimicks via different means: Enlargement or Gigantification.
I think it would be the most useful for him, if he's becoming able to enlarge parts of his body at will, without the need of inflating it artificially by blowing air into it.
He would get rid of the last remaining „drawback“ and therefore gain instantenous G3 and partial G4, that's not bound to any G4 transformation.
How could you justify that happening? He can only compress something that's compressable. Sounds too simple, but it's actually true.
If he could enlargen his body, that he's always compressing for different usages anyway, he would completely max out his ability.
3 Gear 5: Goliath
When David's slingshot turns into Goliath
I think he would get a stamina limited mode, where he enlarges his whole body. Luffy would turn into a bigger, much more stronger and durable version of himself that is able to use all of his gears freely, among that: partially G4 w/o it being bound to a transformation.
I don't think he would go overboard with the enlargement ability, cause I assume it would be linked to a stamina limitation and up to a certain point, he would just sacrfice too much agility and speed.
Does it fit his original fighting style?- Check!
Does it finally get rid of all of his drawbacks?- Check!
Does it make him an absolute unit in combat?- Check!
And just like the other awakenings, the ability on itself, is not uber powerful imo, it's everything combined that would make him super strong.
4 Story relevance
One question remains to be answered tho:
Does it also fit into the story? I think it does, because of multiple reasons:
4. 1 People thought he was 8m tall or as tall as Kaido's lead performers
Either way pretty big.
4. 2 He wouldn't just pop and die, if Blackbeard gets to grab him, something that actually could happen if he keeps relying on his bone- and muscle balloon.
Going with my concept his ability would just deactivate and as a result his body parts would just shrink back to his normal size.
4. 3 It's perhaps the reason why the government wanted his DF so bad. With that lineage factor they could replicate gigantification, something that they seemingly wanted to have since forever.

I think it's in general very unlikely -independent of my idea- that he will get an awakening similiar to theirs. They are actually having control over a particular „force“.
Luffy's not doing something similiar, as he's not controlling the properties of space or some and I therefore don't see how he's transfering such a force onto objects, when he does not even have access to something like that in the first place.
