When Shanks visited Newgate, Newgate described everyone's reaction as shock. I imagine Mihawk's reaction to the news was similar to when Zoro said he defeated all the baboons. But where that realization was followed by glee, the Shanks news was probably a mixture of disappointment and sadness.

I don't think Mihawk's the type to get enraged so willy nilly. He's very "matter of fact" about things. Going back to his moment with Zoro, when Zoro first bowed to him, his feelings weren't of rage, but he was letdown and apathetic. He didn't resent Zoro, but his opinion of him lowered in that instance.

I imagine it was much the same with Shanks until Mihawk started understanding where he came from by sacrificing his arm.

For you what was Mihawk reaction when Shanks lost his arm.

We know that they used to spar and had duels, they had mutiple duels, Mihawk respects Shanks and considered him a worthy rival. So what was Mihawk reaction knowing that his strongest sword rival lost an arm ? and he didn't even lost it against a powerful opponent that Mihaw can fight.

And we know that Mihawk takes those things seriously, duels, looking for the worthy opponents etc.

Was he mad for some time ? Do you think he was mad to lose his rival ? especially for a "foolish" reason.

Was he calm ? thinking that Shanks could do whatever he wanted and that didn't concern him.

What is your opinion ?

mihawk goes in depresion because he realised that shanks care about something other then sword duels with him.

1. Mihawk was most definitely mad he lost a rival and thought Shanks was dumb. (judging by his interaction with Shanks, also why he was lashing off at some fodders - Don Krieg's fleet)

2. Mihawk got his mind changed after encountering Zoro and Luffy at Baratie. (basically, he paralleled Shanks-Luffy with Zoro)

3. Mihawk reconciled with Shanks when he visited him showing Luffy's first bounty. This is like saying "Okay Shanks, now I know why.".

4. Another confirmation is Mihawk testing Luffy at Marineford, which then made Mihawk realize's Luffy's true strength.

5. Then another with Zoro bowing down for Mihawk to teach him. Mihawk knows it's about Luffy.

All of Mihawk's significant appearances, story-wise, are all directly or indirectly related to Shanks.

Shanks is a genius; In this manga, it's rare to come across a true genius since most characters get strong through pure effort and constant training. Shanks is a prodigy and should have continued that way, but losing his arm should have been monumental news. Shanks was the only one capable of learning Kamusari, even though he was very young in the crew compared to the others. Gaban himself told him he was the 'child of destiny,' which means that when Shanks learned Kamusari, it seemed logical to everyone because he was destined for the world's peak in terms of strength.

It's such a shame he lost his arm. Even Whitebeard, who was amazed by the legendary duels between Mihawk and Shanks, was shocked by the loss of that arm. Mihawk had found peace being at the top of the world, but he enjoyed having someone as powerful as Shanks as a rival; the news must have hit him incredibly hard. The legendary duels between these two powerful rivals had come to an end

Due can always go to have a fight with Big meme, Kaido and the old sick WB, but no he gonna go the way to east blue to fight a rookie pirate hunter. Heck, Kizaru even use a lightning sword in fighting, yet he never wanted to mess with him even he is literally a marine, his enemy.
