Powers & Abilities Mihawk's logic say ZoLo is an incompetent swordsman

"A competent swordsman doesn't need to cross swords to know a person skill level "

What if the person does not even have a weapon on him? Zoro took him for just a non-combatant, because Scopper showed nothing that indicated he was

It's only after he brings out his axes, that Zoro would even consider him as someone to "cross blades" with in the first place.

And when Scopper starts readying his Axes, Zoro is Immediately concerned

And before Scopper even launches his attack, Zoro knows it's dangerous.

So I think Scopper's intent here and the displaying of that intent is what heightens Zoro's awareness of just how strong Scopper is.

On the other hand, yes there is an ability to gauge an opponents strength just by looking at them with observation haki, Mihawk can do this, and so can Koby for example when he gauges Kyros as strong.

Perhaps Zoro and Luffy are just not great at doing this, and perhaps you have to intentionally try to do this in order for you to be able to gauge someones prowess. But Zoro and Luffy clearly weren't even trying, they just dismissed him.

BUT when Scopper demands their attention by bringing out his signature weapons, and Zoro gets another look at him, he straight away knows something is up.

So in that regard I think Zoro was successful in gauging Scoppers strength before he launched his attack, thus letting Luffy know it's probably better he avoid it.

Mihawk own words:

A competent swordsman doesn't need to cross swords to know a person skill level

Yet ZoLo completely underestimated Ya-shi, and even lost his cool when he realized his mistake

If we follow the strongest swordsman in the world sound practical judgment than it's mean ZoLo is an incompetent swordsman

A pity, really 😞
They are both incompetent.

Teach's RH Shiryu reign supreme.
