It's just an act on Doffy's behalf. Adopts them, delegates them, makes them feel important only to die for his sake. DD pirates are the perfect foil to the SH crew, as is Doffy to Luffy.

What an amazing character. Shows more depth in this one panel than so called major villains we've seen post timeskip.

He lived with no regrets and died with a smile. The most stoic character in the series, showing this side of him right before death.

I wouldn't say this but yes it was actually a good sendoff for him which surprised me since he was otherwise just another mundane stoic RHM character like King or Daz Bones.

Teach is just a weak man in an unjust world trying to survive and raise up the world by any means necessary. Sure he is evil but it's easy to rationalize his evilness.
Most of the CDs enjoy being evil. I'm sure BB enjoys the outcome of his betrayals too but he would probably take wins without killing people if he could.
Kaido is also a weird person because he has everything. Power, fame and Wealth yet he is still obsessed with oppressing and enslaving people. His evilness is honestly not talked enough.
