Wrong. Careless yes, but not selfish, he is fighting for his friends. Opposite of being selfish.
Going against the odds isn't being selfish.
On the opposite, Kidd for example is being very selfish since he had no ally and went on a mission and dragged his fodder crew with him to fight against Kaido and his 40000 men when he had no mean to hurt Kaido and not enough men to fight the gifters. That would be a better example.
He can thank Luffy to have brought enough allies to take care of the fodders, the calamities and to deal the most damage to kaido alongside his first mate Zoro while Kidd will be amazed for most of the fight

You make it sound like Zeff was some awful thing he picked up from the streets or that he was very eager to get married to Pudding or that he even sold out Luffy and company's secrets to an enemy yonko.
You must a scum bag in real life who would be very eager to send your parents to nursing home and be rid of them so you can live your life free of "burden" since you clearly in favor for Sanji to happily abandon his father figure just so he could play adventure with his friends.

Also, people think Luffy is selfish because he acts like a stubborn schmuck sometimes and only focuses on a fight, or meat, or some other distraction when his crew is trying to accomplish something. Doesn’t mean he’s always wrong (or at least isn’t eventually proven right), and selfish people can still have friends or inspire others, but let’s call a spade a spade here 
Hell of an assumption to make, that someone must hate their parents because...they think a character in a manga is written like a selfish asshole? What kind of logic is that? You’re defending Sanji online, does that mean you condone sexual harassment in real life?

In a way calling Luffy selfish is not really accurate because he is always fighting for his friends, meaning his driving factor is not his self satisfaction rather satisfaction of his friends.
I guess you can argue that fighting for his friends gives Luffy self satisfaction but by that logic who isn't selfish?
At that point is selfishness even a negative trait? Perhaps the most generous and benevolent human being gets self satisfaction from doing his benevolent and selfish deeds? Is he selfish?
