With the repercutions of Kaido and BM Alliance, we could understand that the WG wasnt willing to go to a full scale war against the Emperors, as this would spend a huge amount of resouces and manpower, and even with a victory, the WG could open space for a even bigger threat, yet, they waged war on WB, who was the strongest Pirate at the time, for sure WB would go to war for any of his sons, but i doubt that the WG would go to war just to kill Jozu, Vista or Izo, and was much more likely that the WG would make a deal with WB to set his crewmate free while keeping this hided from the public. But with Ace the things were different, he becoming Joy Boy was the biggest threat the WG could face since the Void Century, and they were willing to use all they can to prevent this.
The main problem with all this was that the leaders of the two factions in the war, WB and Imu, knew the true history, one of them seems to have even been there, yet they just forgot a small point, ACE HADNT THE CHOSEN ONE FRUIT, he couldnt become Joy Boy, as now we knew, the one that become Joy Boy was the one with Joy Boy fruit, pehaps WB didnt knew this, as he knew about the true history through Roger, who knew from what he have seen in Laftel. But there's no justification for Imu to believe this, he most likely was there in the void century and have knew Joy Boy in person, and as the Gorosei say, they have been after the Gomu Gomu all this time, so the high-ups from the WG knew about this "small" condition to become Joy Boy, yet why they believe Ace, who already had a fruit could be him? There's only one explanation, after so many centuries the old age have made Imu and Gorosei develop Alzheimer, thats why they just remember about Gomu fruit after 1000 chapters. This wasnt a plothole by Oda, he is just trying to bring awareness to this condition that afect so many people in the world, such a good guy.
