Garp clearly uses observation haki to dodge Luffy's punch in episode 8, they don't explicitly name it because at this point in the story haki wasn't a thing that was explained. Armament haki doesn't even come into play in a significant capacity until Sabaody.

It's funny, before the show came out people were saying it was gonna get canned after one season. Now that it came out, people are saying it won't make it past season two lol
