Obito states he couldn't use both eyes
Then explains why, the Rinnegan is a huge chakra/stamina tax on his body
Then adds that he's not the original owner(literally no reason to add this unless it is elaborating the sentence before) yet he was capable of accomplishing alot with it. Fears what will happen once Madara(who's the owner therefore no tax) wields both eyes

Why wasnt Obito able to wield Rinnegan and said that he almost lost himself when wielded it
And Because he isn't the true Owner, he only can implant one eye. The burden of Rinnegan is too much for the one who didn't "own" them. Like Obito said Even with one eye The chakra and that Ocular Power are so strong his body can't handle it. And he only uses it in a few days.
if u want another example of someone who like obito ( the one who didn't awaken it ) but can handle it, its Nagato
i think u already knew Nagato is a Uzumaki, one of the reason he is given 2 Rinnegan by Madara is because he had Uzumaki Bloodline. Uzumaki clan had an Massive Chakra reserves hence why he is able to use 2 of them for such a long time. Altho His Body is slowly dying for carrying that burden because he isn't the one who "Awaken" those eyes.
