Character Discussion Oda failed to make King and Queen menacing characters?

F

Fallen Prince

We get few panel on both king and Queen. I feel Queen has ridiculous past to end up being commander , turns out he has fun aide and menancing like hogback seeing people as termites .

I have no idea why king is added ? Maybe its reserved for strawhat to level up considering endgame is near . Zoro and sanji are nowhere near to General level fighters .

It's not just King and Queen, both Yonko crews so far (tbh most Post TS antagonists in general) haven't been threatening for a number of reasons.

- The complete lack of tension. Oda constantly building up fake tension and using copouts/asspulls to save the protagonists (and side chars nobody cares about like Pound) has ruined any tension that could be had. How we can we be worried when we don't expect anyone important on the good guys' side to die?
- PIS. Thanks to Oda throwing in the heroes into impossible situations, he often has to dumb the antagonists down to absurd levels to ensure their survival, my favorite example is probably Perospero refusing to shoot the Vinsmokes so he can perfect his Dio/Meruem impersonation.
- Maybe it's just me, but part of me feels like Oda doesn't want proper antagonists anymore, except for maybe the final war, and that's a big maybe. Last decent antagonist for me was Vergo back in Punk Hazard, which was what...6-7 years ago? Even with Kaido, who he's built up for years, Oda obliterated his crediblity as a villain with the infamous King of the Hostages scene. I don't care he kills off the Scabbards (possibly the worst group of allies to date), the damage has been done. He might be able to give us an actually good fight, but Kaido will never be able to fully live up to his potential.

Doflamingo was a much better antagonist than Vergo. Probably the best antagonist post timeskip.....

Side characters were always saved from death this isn't new (Ex. Pell).
PIS has been in every arc and in every shonen in manga. In marineford Kizaru chose to shoot the key instead of Luffy or Ace or both.
Doflamingo and Kata are 2 of the best antagonists in the series.

It seems a lot of criticism of post TS seem to be blinded by nostalgia and dont see that these things have existed for the entirety of the manga

Queen is absolutely to be feared based on his showcase so far :king:

This man captured a Yonko and delivered it tied up like a prized piglet

He's a beast who laughs at the thought of facing a Conqueror

Treating these Supernova like kids playing Pirates Games

casually handling Luffy in base without even looking at him

fucking up X Drake without breaking a sweat

or throwing Luffy's and Zoro's asses to the lowest floor as soon as they get too gutsy and try to aim for his captain.

With just one of his Plagues, this man had the feared Wano Samurai and the Yakuza running for their lives, and would have slaughtered them by the thousands without even having to get his hands dirty.

It took the combined effort of multiple Supernova, Straw Hats, the best doctor in the world and a Yonko FM with the perfect ability for the task to containt the situation, and even that wouldn't have been possible if they did not get their hands on the antidote Queen had made for that particular Plague in the first place.

Queen has already showed us that among top YC he is outstanding, which his bounty reflects, and did so without even properly revealing his actual combat style and engaging in any significant 1 vs 1 combat, let alone the Hybrid form which will combine his already impressive physical might, with that of the Largest Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit in the manga.

Hybrid Queen will be an absolute monster, dwarfing the puny F6 in both sheer size and absolute power :finally:
It's almost like some people ignore these moments from Queen and act like he shouldn't be taken seriously just because he's goofy, what I like about Queen is that he can be both goofy but also serious at the same time. Queen is a good mix of being both wacky and intimidating, both Jack and King are already serious characters so it's nice to have at least one Calamity that isn't always serious.

Even though Queen has goofy moments, he also has moments like these where he can get very serious.

That one scene where Queen was yelling his lung out at X Drake was pretty intimidating, especially when it came as if he was gonna break Drake's bones over any answer he didn't like
I think he was rather funny than intimidating but it's pretty subjective in my opinion. There's not necessarily a well cut definition of what's intimidating but it's related to the observer.
