It's 100 % what I've already said several times in this forum. If people like super hardcore Protagonists abd super serious stuff they should go for Berserk or other Manga.

From chapter 1 Odas Style was obvious.

The balance of goofy comedy, dark main plot and even serious moments is the essence of One Piece.

that's the point , the balance is broken , now the scale it's 85% on the goofyiness , remember in pre TS
- Sanji noosbleeds were balanced with serious moments , then we get Fishman island
- Luffy goofyness was balanced up until now , then we get G5
It's cool to have characters have gags but ONLY if they are balanced by serious moments.
Now Luffy is totally off scale , the goofyness completely took over the most important moment of the arc , the final fight. Oda himself knows people won't like it and still went head with it because HE likes it , wich is fair , he should draw what he wants , but let's not pretend that the story gets better with G5

Oda does what he wants since it's his manga and he is really like "you don't like then don't read it", exactly what's happening also with the sales dropping and not even in top 10.
Fair enough lol.

Just wondering how shueisha is okay with that, what they want is mainly money.

I may not like Gear 5, but I rather an author stick with whatever he/she wants to draw in the end rather than listen to fan demand. Always remember what happened when Toriyama did that and Buu saga happened, by listening the crying tears of the goku fanboys...

People can always drop something they don't like, no complain will ever make a difference, drop the series, stop buying anything related to that series that's the best way you can reflect if you really want that.

Or get a community reaction and make spam posts like Lee does (lol)

Are you sure about this?....One piece may drop below top 10 sometimes but it's sale per volume is very consistent as far as I remember...every volume sale upto 2 to 3 million copies....and yearly it is getting around 7 million sales.....how is seven million per year is loss business is beyond me...it has consistent sales...so why would Shuisha would put any pressure on oda....

I mean maybe the minimum target is 5 millions per years.
But bro, check 2011 sales it was 37 millions of sales and now barely 7 millions. That's huge ...

The top 10 thing is the weekly ranking. That means others mangas sell little bit more.

Okay Oda but

-I don’t dislike G5 for what it can do, I dislike the Nika aspect of it
-the end of the fight was still just Luffy landing a big punch on Kaido. Which was poorly drawn, didn’t at all use the potential of the fruit (could have been a G3 or G4 move and no one would bat an eye) and importantly, you said wouldn’t happen.

I mean, I know OP is goofy, I like that OP is goofy. The interview isn’t really all that surprising and it doesn’t mean there will never be serious moments or fights again.

Very controversial words. It reminds me of Toriyama when at the end of Dragon Ball,after the serious fights of Frieza and Cell arcs,created Majin Buu who had silly fights like the one with Gotenks (but also serious fights).

i also don't like G5 Because it was in fight with kaido it already had almost no tension and G5 and underwhelming ending make it way worse than it was before
i normally like goofy things in op but this time it wasn't in right time for me
i also don't like df change stuff he could do G5 With out changing his DF

Oda can do why he wants, but that doesn’t mean it is good.
Goofy and serious elements can still work well if balanced properly. The issue with the Gear 5 & Kaido stuff is that it wasn’t.
He says that he doesn’t want Luffy to be the only one pulling tricks but extending that to his opponent just diminishes tension. The dialogue doesn’t have to be silly either with “isn’t this fun, Kaido?”
Get that rubbish out of here!
