I find it interesting in this chapter, Oden explicitly hypes up his sword fighting ability. On his admission, his two sword style is the best there is. It's good to see, that actual sword technique and style still holds weight.

Is this Oden claiming himself to be the best swordsman at that period of time? This was likely after he already knew Roger had passed away too.

Also on a sidenote, lol at people who say Oden is not a benchmark for Zoro to surpass. Not only has he inherited Oden's blade, but Oden's two sword style has been called the greatest.

Perhaps Hiyori seeing Zoro use the 3 sword style had a huge sway on her deciding he was worthy of taking Enma.

Nice thread, i was thinking about that too. Why saying those lines now ? As if we don't know that Oden is really strong ..
But to say that his Nitoryu is the best is a direct challenge for any Nitoryu users. And coincidence ... Zoro only used the Nitoryu style in Wano lol and still uses it in the war!

Maybe oda wants to say something or it's just random lines ?

Oden was as strong if not stronger than prime mihawk in his time. My two cent that he was stronger since i don't see mihawk beating a yonko while well, Oden would have extreme diffed kaido

Also notice how 8 swords took place in the Togen Totsuka this chapter. Zoro can use 9.

He's literally one upping Oden (and his retainers).

Nah, it has not to be taken so litterally. For sure it is better than whatever style the scabbards had but that doesn't mean it was the best in the world. Or at least maybe for Oden it was the most perfect style for him but the scabbards alread had their own who fit them and same goes for guys stronger than Oden like Roger, WB, Ray etc.
