Because Nami was in 7th place while Sanji was in his 3rd place during the start of march. And there were a lot of people talking about how close Luffy and Zoro were when those results came out.

A few hundred to maybe a thousand Sanji fans petty enough to not vote Sanji didn’t have any major swing.

So from the regional results, it was basically Asia who saved Luffy from Zoro.

Even in Japan they were almost the same. 200k votes for Luffy above Zoro just in Asia. In all of the rest of the regions, Zoro was doing pretty equal or above Luffy, and all the female characters got a bunch of votes.

Nice, well Luffy&Zoro are so close (1'637'921 to 1'445'034) Nami got 1'085.000 (the gap between the first 2 and the 3 is big), Oda will keep that thing in mind. Zoro is so popular that Oda will have a special regard on him, in fact that is what is currently happening in Wano:

Japan vote: Luffy 477,6k Zoro 469,3k that nothing - they are so close in Japan.
