Whitebeard took on the responsibility of a captain to save all those under him, and he did it while standing proud, and reigniting a new flame for pirates everywhere. The quintessential actions of a leader.

Zoro took it upon himself to serve his captain when he needed him most. Relinquishing what was important to him, and supporting Luffy's lead t'ill the end. He carried out his task without letting Luffy and the others know. He joined Luffy to be of service to him, not a burden. The quintessential acts of a mate.

"I AM WHITEBEARD!" is actually my favourite WB panel.
There are so many good ones. I skimmed through some chapters now and found many I like, and this is only like 15 chapters into MF, plus the I am Whitebeard one.

"Nothing happened" is the greatest manga panel for me, not only from One Piece, but out of all the manga I have ever read.

Lets not forget what Zoro's ambition means to him. Since his introduction, the one thing we repeatedly hear from Zoro is his goal to become WSS. He was portrayed to be pretty much indifferent to most of the things around him apart from his training; a perfect example of focus and dedication. He cared about his goal more than his own life, a conviction so strong that surprised Mihawk, and puzzled Sanji.

A conviction so strong that defies logic, defies everything ordinary, defies the death God himself

It was already epic to begin with how Zoro was willing to abandon his dream to save Luffy. We readers know how out of character it is when the same guy threatened to kill Luffy if he comes between his ambition.

But thats not everything. You can find examples of great sacrifices in anime/manga. From top of my head, Ace dying to protect Luffy is one of such moments. Itachi killing his parents, lover and eventually himself for Konoha and his brother is another one. You can also find a selfish Vegeta trying to sacrifice himself to beat Majin Buu.

The greatest part of that panel was how Zoro kept his suffering secret from his crew. He wanted no praise or glory. His "nothing happened"; like a boss; was the most unexpected and epic reply possible. That was his way of saying, the hellish pains he suffered, his precious ambition, the humiliation of begging to Kuma are all very insignificant compared to Luffy's life and collective goal of the crew. What a panel! What an incredible act of sacrifice!

Honestly in the grand scheme of things, WBs death was more important, Zoros sacrificed moved me more.
It hit me on personal level, and made me the biggest zoro stan in history lmao. One of the best character development I have seen out of any fictional character, considering how much Zoros ambition and his life meant to him to throw it all away for his captain.

Have to go with Zoro panel. It is probably the greatest manga moment I have ever seen.

No disrespect to WB though, his death is my second favorite one piece moment.
