In the first arc tobi appeared he fought Sasuke, remember? He helped deidara kill the 3 tails… Then the next time he appeared he told Sasuke the entire Itachi story… Did you forget this? That it was Tobi who revealed to Sasuke why Itachi killed their clan? That was like THE BIG REVEAL of the whole of shippuden before the war… And it only happened because of Tobi

Lol, he didn't do anything useful for the Akatsuki. He didn't even stop Sasuke from killing Deidara, and the three tails was one of the easiest to catch.
Obitos record is literally:
Failed nine tails attack on the leaf, loses and is forced to run from the fourth hokage
Took over the mist a couple years, is later exposed and forced to leave for whatever reason
Tried working with the Uchiha to overthrow the villages leadership, is stopped by Itachi, who at 13 years old threatens Obito to never attack the leaf again
The Akatsuki does jackshit for a decade
Doesn't help at all in capturing any of the most dangerous tailed beasts, leaves it to Sasuke and Pain, both technically fail
Kakashi and Yamato stop him from capturing Naruto in the five Kage arc
Tries stealing Shisuis eye from Danzo,has Sasuke do the fighting for him, then Sasuke kills him but Danzo destroys the eye
Gets blackmailed by Kabuto, who carries him in the war anyway

Sure, Obito following Deidara around and getting 100 l's is more then what Imu has done I guess? Kind of doing something vs not really doing anything yet

Imu is starting a final war as well, and he didn't wait for the worlds leaders to have a meeting where they unite against him like trashbito.

Imu is the one who wants to do the flood obviously. That is what starts the war. Obito waited for the 5 kage to unite against the Akatsuki to start his "war" where Kabuto bailed him out. The entire first half of the war was carried by Kabuto and Madara, while Obito was getting stopped from capturing the tailed beasts by Kakashi and Gai when he finally shows up.

He talked to Nagato in his backstory like once and Nagato and Yahiko weren't interested, Nagato only changed his mind once Yahiko died, something trashbito had nothing to do with.

The difference you aren't getting is that Obito is a loser and Imu is a winner. Imu won a war 800 years ago and has secretly ruled the world since, the civilization he crushed is connected to the MC himself. Obito has 100 l's and countless failed plans that ended in humiliation(Destroying the leaf, Taking over the mist, To work with the Uchiha to destroy the leaf) and spent a decade hiding in a cave while he hopes the Akatsuki can catch the tailed beasts for him as they drop like flies. If you think Imu would be a better character if he was giving up on his goals because of 13 year old kids, that's fine, but that doesn't mean Imu is bad

Its relevant to the plot that the only thing Obito does in the plot is take 1000 L's while Imu is the winner of the war, obviously.
Obito was replaced by Black Zetsu and Madara for a reason, Kishi doesn't view him as a serious villain.

I couldn't care less how Imu looks because I knew it's a completely new character so the masking doesn't work for me
For Tobi, because we knew he was gonna be one of the characters we already knew, i'm more or less intrigued of who's under that mask.
In highsight it was fairly obvious that it was Obito but it was interesting to guess back then
