This might very well be the case honestly, Kaido is still in Hybrid mode and that was a combo attack. Thunder Bagua felt particularly potent but still flung in Base form. It would be mandatory to acknowledge how basic or not they are when confronted.

Blocking for a moment is something weird, it's not like Jaws blocking Mihawk's slash, Luffy warned them and he seems to have sustained great damage, unlike Jinbe.
