I personally think that Garling being the "champion" of an event that Rocks, Roger, Garp, three future yonko and Rayleigh is more impressive than just being the ruler of an island

Same if he played a role vs rox pirates I prefer to refer as champion too, kind of sounds more badass in that context.

But at the same time him being the ruler of an island where it was basically a secons place to other CD's while he is one himself. There's supposed to be equity over them yet he ruled that island.
