The issue here is that they are not facing any military force yet.

Let's see if the nation lives up to its hype and reputation. I am skeptical that it will still feel deserved once this arc is done.

There's some differences. Pre skip it was actual adventure into the unknown.

Post skip, mainly after wano, everything is connected to goofy being nika.

Even in this very chapter, the sun god will undoubtedly be connected to nika the sungod.

I think it was only done for fanservice
Oda knew the fans wanted Luffy and to be a yonko so he made him one but he had no intention of changing his way of writing to have the crew living up to their status

It was bad enough when he declared Luffy a 5th Emperor post WCI but Luffy "earned it" by end of Wano imo, after the biggest asspulls and retcons we've ever seen though ofc and Oda truly embraced them being a Yonko crew now by clowning them as he does to Yonko crews, just look at how he treated Jack, Pekoms at WCI, the infamous waterfall incident with Big Mom herself too and her "amnesia" and Smoothie, a YC2 who cant even handle a waterfall nor get past a fucking door too, Queen sabotaging way more of his own forces/alliances, King not having CoC etc.

Newer generations of powerful roles in anime seem to be far weaker though, looking at some of the awful choices of new captains in Bleach after the series ends, most of the new (why are they) Kages in Naruto post EOS etc, I wouldn't be surprised if newer Yonkos were weaker than previous ones...oh wait Luffy and Buggy lol.

The fact Oda didnt even let Big Mom and Kaido have awakenings purposely because there's no way they would lost if they had, he could not write a believable defeat for either of them if they had, but then again, their defeats were barely believable as it is ofc.

The Strawhats are constantly running from something.
Which is a bit ridiculous for a crew that is supposedly one of the 4 strongest on the sea.

They don't need to fight every time they pick their battles, could they knock this giant out, yes but they're in Elbaf has guest why would the possibly anger the giants and start a huge conflict if they don't have too?

I'd love for the giants to get wiped out but Strawhats aren't the type of crew to squad wipe a whole country for no reason

Literally the biggest in the series in many ways. Given how much Elbaf means to Oda and the series, I fear Elbaf will be the biggest and thus most literally gigantic arc in the series too by far, even more than Wano is, since its revolves around giants too ofc.

Adventure piece was much better pre TS too.

It wont matter anyway because soon the arc is gonna turn into Odas classic formula of ticking time bombs, damsels in distress, some tragic princess and corrupt ruler and the most egregious Nika wank aside from actual Luffy glazers and One Piece/Oda sycophants generally.

This is just a shallow imitation of once what made One Piece great, its become a lackluster, tedious, mediocre, slogfest now. Unironically slop and brainrot to read.
