Let's clear up the obvious, if Vergo knew Law's hax would work against him the fight would've ended differently.

Vergo's feats are easily scalable to YC1, and in some cases overshadowing them. What he suffers from is portrayal, or does he?

-Before fighting Warlord Law, Smoker did mention he was dangerous but he starts a fight with him so casually
-In Alabasta, even though everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs how a commander from the legendary Whitebeard crew is sitting right next to them, Smoker could give two shits about that information. Ace is easy YC1 level.

I mean he's fine. He had personality, a good relationship with Doffy, and his power level was good for the standards we were at during Punk Hazard.
But he's at most a B tier villain for me. Not interesting enough for me to still care about him a whole decade later.

He was too boring and too stoic imo, I didn't find him interesting at all, and I didn't find his food stuck on his cheek gag funny at all.

But he's not as bad as Trebol, who was really annoying and also had a very annoying voice(Anime), and had easily one of the most disgusting devil fruits.

Although Trebol is a bit more interesting though.

I actually did like the food-on-cheek gag, it was just a small gag that they didn't overdo. And it's at least better than the Sanji pervert gags for example.
But if you don't think he's interesting, that's fair. For what it's worth though, he has a nice design and his fight with Smoker, though it was short, was cool.
The problem I have with him is that these guys are hyping him up to be some Commander level god, but from the looks of it, he couldn't even push PH Law past a low diff at the most. And he went high diff with a nerfed Smoker.
Even weirder when you consider that he's Doffy's strongest or second strongest fighter within the whole crew, but his feats are mostly lackluster. It just doesn't sit right with me.
That's why I could never get into all the wank behind him.

Yeah just don't give it attention. It thrives off that.
