Who did Mihawk beat to obtain the title? Was Shanks interested in competing for the title? Was Mihawk recognised before or after he stopped engaging Shanks?
You have no grasp on any of this but you and so many like you are all too happy to tout that title like you do. It’s weird, which is fine, but it’s not evidence of anything in relation to Shanks VS Mihawk.

Not all. I think WBs "title" (it was not really a title) was invalidated by his performance during MF. Being the worlds strongest was his reputation. And at one point it may have been true, but old age got the better of him.
Its ridiculous that people took this at face value if you think about it. He got called the worlds strongest while sitting on literal life support ind the very same panel.
Kaido is the same deal. Its a rumor or reputation. He also never claimed it to be true, even though it might have been.
Mihawk on the other hand said that he is waiting at the top. He is an active pirate during his prime. His reputation should reflect his actual power. There are no signs of decline for him.
Does not matter to me. I dislike remote wank.
Shanks has way more weight to throw around. And at that level the strength difference between him and Mihawk are minimal at best anyways.
Mihawk > Shanks seems to hurt Luffystans and Shankstans feelings so they defend Shanks > Mihawk even with nonsensical arguments.
Becoming stronger than Shanks also means becoming more influential. Mihawk > Shanks does not actually invalidate Luffys goal.

This is true but you can still gauge how Oda was thinking about these characters at MF. He had Mihawk state inferiority to WB and gave him a weaker opponent than the admirals. That gives you insight into how Oda was thinking about the hierarchy of top tiers even if the exact portrayals of power get eclipsed by their later feats.
