Their powers both enter the reality warping realm.( I think Luffy barely tapped into his powers in G5)

They are literal opposites and fated to fight.

Your reasoning is based on a fundamental misreading of the information revealed through Cobra/Imu and Vegapunk in ch 1084 and 1115.

Joyboy did not fail to defeat Imu.

Joyboy failed to defeat the alliance of the Twenty Monarchs of the Twenty Kingdoms that banded together to defeat the Ancient Kingdom. It was a conflict without clarity on who was right or wrong according to Vegapunk.

We know Imu was among the victors and that they built the Empty Throne as a symbol of their equality.

Somehow, Imu has sat the throne for hundreds of years, and none of the other Monarchs are known to us to have survived (I believe Mars will be revealed as one of the Monarchs and the only Gorosei that knows the whole story).

Nothing suggests Imu possessed the power he has now, or that he was even the principal actor against Joyboy when he was defeated, but it does seem fairly obvious Imu betrayed the other Monarchs and took the Empty Throne.

The circumstances of Imu's ascension remain unclear, but I believed it happened during the Void Century that followed the demise of the Ancient Kingdom and birthed the World Government.

Rocks tried and failed to usurp Imu's throne. I think it's insanity to believe Blackbeard won't succeed.
