People are trying to parallel the Sanji thinking he has CoC to Zoro refusing about it to Brook in Onigashima
The real actual parallel is that when SHPs allied with Law and he asked who could use haki to be able to fight a Logia in the form of CC it was revealed that only Luffy, Zoro and Sanji could do it.
The situation here is similar that there is a new enemy who has been set up as almost impossible to harm and the only way to harm them is through haki (ACoC). And in this case only Luffy and Zoro qualify.
There is still hope for Sanji because after PH another SHP unlocked haki in the form of Usopp with his specific CoO. So Sanji might also unlock some specific CoC application in the next arc.
Coming to the improving CoC haki thing, I think we should wait for raws because it can mean two things, one is that there is another level of application of ACoC, like we have base CoA, then CoA hardening/blackening, then Ryou or ACoA and then IDCoA. We have seen chars use both base CoA and CoA hardening which implies that it is dependent on the users intention of how much quantity/intensity they want to put in. Then we have another application of flowing it outside the body like coating weapons (this is a haki technique and not necessarily a haki strength determinant). Then we have another advanced application of flowing the haki into another object (again this is another technique and not necessarily haki strength determinant).
So Gabans comment on Luffy improving haki can mean that whatever Luffy showed against Gaban was not good enough and he should work on his current haki technique (refining it), there is another application of it so learn the new technique or it is weak so he must grow stronger. Wait for raws and official translations before judging on this statement.
Is there a difference between regen capabilities of the HKs compared to the Domi Reversied chars? Becuase I think Broggy got his cut hand reattached or at least moving like an attached hand but with some space gap in between. So in Elbaf there are not only 3 HKs (Imunko, Killingham and Sommers) but also the Giant Warrior Pirates who have this same ability and as such beating them might actually require beating Imunko or the spell/contract ends on its own after a time. Cause at the moment we have only 3 confirmed ACoC users on heroes side, maybe even four with Loki (very likely),
