It was never about power level.

It was about persona. In the supernova trio, Luffy and Kid were the unreasonably stubborn knuckleheads, while Law was more reasonable and calculating. Then there is stuff like Kid having a supernova partner type RHM under him. Kid was obviously more Luffy-esque.

Law is the least person I have issue with getting conqueror's haki by the way. He had insane willpower and courage on his own right.

Look at Coby. Yes, he is an inheritor of Garp's will and fighting style.
But dude was groveling at Alvida, accepted being her slave. Giga Luffy/Zoro fanboy. Cries reading news about Luffy and fanboys along with other Luffy fanboys. Imagine Garp having this kinda relationship with Roger.
I will never deny that Coby massively grew as a character, that he developed his own willpower forcefully, and is posterboy of hardwork in the new gen. But dude's persona isn't conqueror material at all.

No, the writing wasn't on the wall here. I mean, I always knew that Coby would be getting conqueror's haki, but it was moreso due to narrative (cause muh parallels) than any in-verse logic.
My judgement here is not related to how I like these characters. Law was always in my top 10, and I actually like Coby as a character inspite of weird forced parallels by Oda during Beehive.
Sengoku, Rayleigh, Katakuri, even Mihawk are all calm and calculating. When their hand is forced, they won’t back down nor fear anything just like Law. They’re not really headstrong characters like Luffy.

For Coby, he’s inexperienced and growing. This “conqueror material” is pretty much hoopla. The conquerors we have are all varying in personality. You just need really strong willpower, that’s why Usopp unlocking CoC is a real thing imo. The dude can show the strongest willpower at the right moment.

Yeah but it's being treated as a cheap joke. There's something called basic writing.
Oda loves gags, always had and always will for Sanji. All his fire powers are bascially a gag for "passion".

Nothing new.

Also, this Is the same type of gag we had when Gaban said the was the second and not the Third in crew. In this case Sanji said he Is the one and not Zoro.

Until now I was nearly certain that Sanji will get CoC but I'm unsure now.

The entire gag of, "I'LL GET IT, RIGHT? IT'S ME, RIGHT?" in comical scene kinda just sets up a, "and then he never gets it lol," gag rather than a serious teaser (like Zoro's implication when Brook said it. Or Kaido).

He might compensate with Power of Love or smthn idk. But this feels way too cheap of a teaser for something that'd actually happen, and instead a prefect running gag of something that'll never happen.
Years ago I used to think Sanji didn’t necessarily need Conqueror’s Haki. Given his character and backstory, a different kind of power-up would’ve suited him better. But thinking that now feels completely out of touch with where the story is headed.

By the end of the story, Luffy’s crew will need to surpass Shanks’, Roger’s, and even Joy Boy’s.
Roger’s wings are both confirmed Conqueror’s Haki users.

Now Oda has clearly moved Sanji away from the rest of the crew, to place him alongside Luffy, Zoro, and Loki. All Conquerors, all destined to take on the top threats of this arc. Hajrudin is likely a Conqueror too. Son of Harald, chasing the dream of becoming the king of giants.

And yet we’re supposed to believe that Sanji, the clear parallel to Gaban, won’t be able to defeat a Holy Knight? Again, I’d honestly be surprised if someone like Usopp didn’t end up taking down a Holy Knight-tier opponent in the future. And we’re seriously questioning Sanji?
