Trauma is definitely involved. Orochimaru's desire to know every jutsu & his desire for immortality in part, is inspired by his parent's death. His white snake symbol, a symbol of rebirth, came to him when he was at their graves' after all.

I just think Orochimaru devolved beyond his trauma and succumbed to his own insane curiosities. He no longer cares about his parent's or the loss of Nawaki or anyone.

While it's involved, it doesn't really define him in the same way it does for other Naruto villains. Even Sasori always had a puppet of his parents around, but Orochimaru didn't seem to talk about his parents much, not even characters who know him talk about him being fucked up by his parents death. Ultimately, I don't think Izanami would work on him like it did Kabuto. He wasn't trying to *over compensate* or anything like that.

Orochimaru remains a really weird character with some mysteries to this day Imo. Remember when it was randomly revealed that he looked up to Tobirama at some point? Remember when Sasuke asked why he really attacked the leaf and he just never asked? Remember when it was implied he and Kabuto may have known the truth about the Uchiha massacre always, with Kabuto even knowing about Obito not being Madara?

nah there's definitely room for improvement

Cause there's another level of coc that we just learnt of

But saying zoro's acoc usage was clumsy and thus less powerful is dishonest

All the manga shown has been zoro using way too much. That would only increase power, not decrease.

zoro will learn the immortality countering acoc level, just like goofy

And I told you that the circumstances do not save Orochimaru from the simple fact that he himself stated how much of a pain it is for him to manipulate Sasuke who was completely out of Orochimaru's reach only because he lacked the strength to take over the target that was presented on him on a silver platter.

His own lack of strength made his entire goal just that much harder, why is it so hard to get this?

- Orochimaru suffered a crushing defeat to Itachi and never thought about trying him again after witnessing the gap in strength.
- Orochimaru admitted himself how that completely messes up his plans to opt for a target that isnt as easy to get.
- Deidara was defeated by Itachi in the same way and never gave up on the idea of being able to kill Itachi.

That's the point.

You are mistaking Itachi as Orochimaru's goal, as much as Itachi is Deidara's. That's your mistake.

I also feel like you are mixing up Orochimaru's lament about the effort it takes to get Sasuke. He is more complaining about taking down Hiruzen—"at the cost of my arms"—when reposing Kabuto's congratulations on managing to collar up Sasuke.

Like, your comparison only works if Orochimaru had to have Itachi's body specifically, if there were no other options. But the specific Uchiha doesn't matter. His goal is the sharingan, like I keep saying. He does not lose any ounce of desire or will to move towards that.
