He was an admiral back when he was portrayed as Garp/Roger/WB peer. I don't care about leeching off Sengoku or Garp but it's ironic that the same people who believe that old gen good portrayal/feats don't apply to current marines also claim the L of an admiral going even further back in time is the end for every present day admiral. The only L in this chapter is that the thresold required to be admirals might be lower than expected, I assumed it was mid top tier but it's likely low top tier except if Xebec really turn to be in a tier of his own.

Idk why you think the CDs would have to ask GB to steal Sphinx's treasure in order for him to consider doing it lol. He would just do it on his own to please them, like how he tried to capture Luffy unauthorized in order to earn Akainu's praise

Because in Canon, he isn't even shown to be aware that a treasure exists.

Akainu isn't the same as the celestial dragons obviously. Capturing pirates is what Marines do, not treasure hunting. Plus, I doubt the rich CD's want gifts from a commoner
