Tbh i don't think Garp/Sengoku needed to team up against Shiki.
They probably just mid diffed him which is not bad considering he fought against the two strongest marines.

A lot of people overestimate MF's destruction but it's not that big of a deal nor does it mean they fought to the death.
Shiki could just use his power to throw a few ships and half of MF was destroyed.

Even so, do you seriously believe oda would write either of these two fighting a war with Roger to a draw? Or call them an equal to the pirate king?
